i have heard contradictory things about nosler's ballistic tips. a couple people tell me how accurate they are, and then a couple tell me they are low-end junk, and to go w/ the partitions, or barnes x's, or scirocco's, or whatever bullet costs roughly twice as much. i am all for experimenting in the name of accuracy (i am an accuracy freak!!!), but i want a consensus of what i may gain (accuracy wise) by switching over to b.t.'s. i know that all rifles shoot differently, and penetration/expansion are out of this equation. i just want a consensus of their accuracy before i start load work-ups just find out they won't get it done.

In my experience the baltip is more accurate than the partitions or standard bullets given the same weight bullet.
I load for the following calibers. 223, 270,308, 7m/m and 06. In each of them the baltip will be just a bit more accurate than the same weight partition in the best load. Best being most accurate not necessarily the fastest or what ever.
I have not tried the other premium bullets because I don't feel a need for them.
That has been my experience.
BCR

I have found the B.T. bullets in the four cartridges I load them in to be as accurate as sierra, and more accurate than partitions or hornadys.

I use 180gr ballistic tips in my 300 win mag for the purpose of killing deer out to 650 yards. Last year as I was practicing I shot a 1 1/2" group at 600 yards (ok so I got lucky). Practicing from 100 to 650 yards my largest group so far has been 4 1/2" and actually that was at 550 yards. Who knows I may have not been squeezing the trigger evenly that day.
Don
A 300 win mag beats a 30-06 every time

i use the bt's in my 22-250 for prairie dogs, and have always thought they were pretty accurate. i want to try some of the bt's out that are designed for deer, but didn't know if i could expect similiar accuracy, being as one is a little heavier constructed than the other...
anyway, thanks for the input. i'll give 'em a thorough bench session, as soon as the wind stops (another dream, i'm sure).

It has been my experience, that whatever the Ballistic Tips do,the Hornady V-max do better. That in regards to raw accuracy and use on Game(bullet construction). The V-Max is a more rugged projectile and it is devastating on Game, though Hornady never touted it as such.
Ballistic Tips are highly accurate, but the V-Max even more so. after Bob Nosler started only putting 50 in a box{"For my convenience"),I largely aborted their use. The new Hornady offering, nicely filled that niche. I believe it to be a superior product, and they are priced better,in 100 count boxes. Not often,a guy can have his cake AND eat it too.........
