G'day friends. Trust it is finding you well!

If a person was to go surf fishing in Australia, where would you direct them to?

By that I include standing on the beach and casting out as well as where you might launch a small tin boat into the surf on some remote beach and go out a short distance.

I have been watching you tube videos of this, and it looks like a blast.

But I have no clue of the places they talk about or how to get there. I would prefer not to close to "civilization".

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Warm regards and thanks in advance.

Not something I have had much to do with, but what I have seen has been from Sydney through to Brisbane, and down Tassie from St Helens down toward Bicheno.

But mostly...all around the coast, mostly.

Pretty much anywhere along the coast. The species will differ according to where you are and the time of year. I can go beach fishing within 10 minutes of home, and have a good show of getting a feed of sand whiting or flathead at this time of year (summer). In fact I'll probably do that later today.

The further you go from civilisation, the less competition there is. However, when you get into the tropics you do need to be aware of some additional hazards, like irukanji and crocs.

One fairly well-known destination for surf fishing, if you really want one, is Fraser Island, off the Qld coast. It is a short ferry ride over from the mainland, and you can camp on the miles of beach. People go there in the winter for the tailor. I've done it. There again, I can get tailor a lot closer to home.

I've heard of it being done. Never seen it or done it.

Years ago, before drones, blokes would sometimes use a helium balloon and an offshore wind to get baits well out.

The fish I'm after from the beach usually come in close enough that none of that is necessary. In fact I've often been knee deep casting out into the deeper water, only to notice whiting or flatties actually swimming around my legs.

Plenty of guys do that on the 90 mile and use kayaks as well to catch bronze whalers , for gummis I just wade out you still want the bait in the surf zone

Cool deal, drops On the Texas coast you can catch most fish without them but to consistently catch big sharks you need to get out a few hundred yards, and regularly drop baits up to 2000 yards out.
