So glad she was able to kill that SOB, and that she made it. Good thing the son, though disabled, was able to get a phone to her.

Her son must have been a sound sleeper if he slept through a 357 and 9mm being fired upstairs.

That woman deserves at least, a Medal of Heroism (if Idaho gives one.)
I wonder what kind of ammo she was using in her .357, that two bullets to the chest area (the article) did not incapacitate him enough to stop him from shooting her afterward? FMJ of some kind?? I would think holllow points in .357 would do the job right quick.
No matter, that lady was one brave and determined woman.

L.W. Have no idea if it's the case here, but body armor is readily available and cheap these days. Would expect anyone planning a home invasion to at least have one of those bullet proof hoodies. May have been enough to absorb a lot of the impact. Something to think about in your home defense gun.

I like happy stories!
Long ago I had a box of Remington 158gr jhp for the .357 and foolishly believed they'd be good for about anything that handgun would be used on. After using a couple, and seeing a couple used, one on a mountain lion at a few feet, I discovered I was as wrong as could be. Plenty of penetration but little expansion.

Predictably, the NBC report puts quotation marks around 'heroic'. That has become the standard way the liberal press expresses skepticism, disapproval, or contempt of anything remotely reflecting traditional or conservative values, in this case self-defense. It is particularly evident in any reporting about Trump.
It is glaring prima facie evidence of media bias.

Had she used a 9mm, it would have blown his lungs right out with one shot. Except an 85 year old woman survived "multiple" hits in her "abdomen, leg, arm and chest" from one. Maybe the bad guy was using ball ammo.....thankfully. Its still a miracle she survived, especially since it seems that medical attention was delayed quite a bit.....yes, 10 hours according to the article. I do understand you are joking and please continue to mock our cadaver in chief any chance you get.

Her son must have been a sound sleeper if he slept through a 357 and 9mm being fired upstairs. I'm thinking he's severely, mentally disabled. That's my thinking. He wasn't even able to call 911. It probably took her that long to get it through his head to give her the phone. Someone in her situation would do well to keep a cell phone in a carrier on her body at all times.

All y'all lookin' to defend yourself with handguns should pause and consider the dynamics at play. Handgun bullets operate at relatively modest pressures and velocity and that puts a question mark on terminal ballistics if using jacketed bullets of any style. I doubt that most folks will fiddle with paper patched bullets, but one could also use relatively soft alloy lead with a large meplat in revolvers, or if function is verified, auto-loaders. Case in point was spewed from a .44 mag carbine. Pure lead drops stuff in it's tracks. Not because of velocity of course, but the hell wrought on internals. I load the .38 Spcl with a flat nose 150 gr. cast bullet of BHN 10 hardness. No leading, accurate and effective. It doesn't expand as much at the .44 but typically does about 2x diameter expansion....all with 3.2 grains of Bullseye. That said, shotguns are more fun, trust me on that.
I am..........disturbed.

In the "old" days when I worked part time for our local sheriff's office before I worked for the state patrol I carried a S&W 27 crossdraw. I also carried a S&W backup. The backup I used home brew 38's with 148gn hollowbase wadcutters loaded backwards. In those days you could get away with that type of stuff. That load would destroy about anything it hit. It would blow a mikejug into tiny pieces and cut a 2x4 in half. Tried it on a rabbit one time and there was not much of the rabbit left when it hit the ground. I had read about it in one of my Shooting Times magazines and decided to try it.

Good morning. Chris has been a friend of our family for over two decades. She was the hunter ed teacher for all of my kids. She and her deceased husband are/were great members our community. They were a huge part of the gun club that they decide to buy their retirement home nearby. One of the ranges on that club was dedicated with their name after a major update. Both were very active in the shooting sports community, their church and local community. He was a shooting judge, to include judging at the Olympic level.
I have visited her a number of times in the hospital. I won’t share with you everything I’ve learned. I do know she was in and out of consciousness after the perpetrator was dead. Her son has significant medical problems, and yes, heavy medication is needed in order to sleep. It’s a blessing that he was asleep, or he probably would’ve died. I will not get into the effectiveness of one round versus another. She had a 9MM as an option, but in her words ” it only had three rounds, so I took the 357”. On the other hand, the 9 is the reason she has a new hip.
All that aside this is a very tough situation, even yet. She was in a rehab unit, but now she’s back in the hospital. All the verbiage from the peanut gallery won’t do that much to help us or her. Your prayers will. Good day to all.

Glad she's doing OK. A big F you to the azzwipes who think that folks over a certain age shouldn't have the right of self-defense. I'm the same age and, though I've slowed down a bit, I can still think clearly and shoot well. Also wise enough to hope I'm never put to the test.

Hope she heals up completely, not always easy for 85 year olds. Tough thing to endure in your own house and she'll likely be replaying it in her mind forever.
