Considering a rebore on a Model 1200 in 30-06. But have heard that the Parker Hale barrels are on the soft side. I'd be going up to the 9.3x62mm

Any thoughts?

If it has a British Proof of 18 tons per sq inch stamped on it ...it is proved for 53,628 psi cartridge.

Well this is a fine pickle we're in, should'a listened to Joe McCarthy and George Orwell I guess.

flintlocke;
Good morning to you sir, I hope the sky down in northern California is as bright as ours is so far and that you're well.

When we were chatting about this here recently, fellow 'Fire member greydog, who is a very well respected retired gunsmith, mentioned he'd seen a few of the magnum chambered Featherweight contour barrels which had stretched their chambers.

The .308 Norma barrel I have in the barrel bucket was supposed to have had that happen, but I don't know that for a fact to be clear.

Both it and the Parker Hale .270 barrel I've got are proofed for 18.5 tons - as close as I can figure anyways - and that as you said is more than 50,000 psi.

Unless the people boring it out have other concerns, I'd have to think that a regular contour barrel would be fine to bore out to 9.3.

All the best to you in the upcoming week flintlocke.

Dwayne

Thanks for the replys, I sent Graydog a pm & he speculated the muzzle end of a PH barrel might be to slim to support a 9.3x62 rebore. So worst case scenario is it remains a 30-06
