I feel your pain,as I caught myself throwing a 264 Win barrel, aboard what was formerly a 338 Win this morning and my Kreed's are gigglin' at the 9" RPM Notion. Hint.(grin)
Im trying to understand why or for what purpose you made this load for?
I started exploring the heavy-for-caliber 308 loads back around 2000. Started with the Sierra 190gr Match King, and ended up at the 208 AMax, and 215 Berger.
My purpose was to optimize the 308 for long range shooting, by finding loads that would minimize drift, extend supersonic range, and deliver maximum power on target.
Mostly for shooting steel, and long-range plinking such as this,
I find long heavy for caliber high bc bullets often work well on game. You generally start them at more modest velocities so they don't blow up as easily as a lighter faster bullet plus they retain that velocity and often still expand at lower velocities.
Range finders have made elevation easy but reading wind is always a problem for me. I love the advantage higher bc bullets give me in the wind.
