Thanks all.

For the hide, I normally just have them tanned and I hang them on a hook. Just like a coyote pelt.

Congrats to you and your daughter!

Southern Saskatchewan and southern Manitoba have huge black bears!

The bears in the farmlands bordering Riding Mountain National Park in Manitoba are probably a bit heavier, but
there are a greater fraction of color phase bears in Saskatchewan.

Decades ago I saw the most beautiful cinnamon phase black bear in Saskatchewan. I could not believe how red it was!

If you want another trip, try "MacCarthy Guiding & Outfitting" MacCarthy LINK This is a family business and has been going for about 25 years.

They have real TROPHY bear, moose, deer and fishing opportunities.

The major agricultural crops around Riding Mountain National Park center around clover and beehives - hunters are warmly welcomed and the bear meat from there tastes good! grin

Good evening my cyber friend, I hope all is well with you in the far northeast.

Where we farmed and I grew up was just west of Riding Mountain National Park and Duck Mountain Provincial Park, but we were on the Saskatchewan side.

If you look at a map, we were nearest to the village of Calder, SK.

My better half is from Russell, MB so she spent a fair bit of time up there too.

We didn't have bears really in our area when we left there in '84 and the moose had just started to show up again after being hunted out in the late 1800's.

Now I'm told that the bears and moose are quite common and that mule deer have also moved there from the south and west possibly too.

Anyways sorry to pathfinder for the slight trip into the rhubarb.

Good to see a positive thread with the next shift getting it done.

All the best.

Dwayne

That is a very nice bear, well hunted, and taken with the perfect rifle for the job. I might add, you are looking remarkably fit nowadays! Daughter looks justifiably proud of herself. GD

Hi Dwayne

Thousands of kilometers apart and you and I went in in opposite directions, but now we know that we have even more in common with our roots!

Pathfinder, you mentioned a high concentration of grizzlies in the area, can you hunt them?

Congrats to you both! Sometimes it’s hard for youngsters to have the patience. I think we can all remember how different things felt when we were past that “First” milestone and the pressure was off. A great mentor makes all the build-up time fun. And it sure sounds like you’ve done a heck of a job at that!

My word. You guys are hard on the bear population down there. 😁

Really nice bear. Congrats to your son!
