I wouldn't buy it either.
What could the Chinese possibly know about making gun powder?

LOL

Any word from any of the other manufacturers?

Thanks for posting SW.

How so? The makers of the powders they sell depend on the availability of nitrocellulose too. Once the stockpiles of that disappear, everyone is screwed. Won’t be long before governments declare it as “essential war material” or whatever term they use. Might get very tight for recreational shooters; already is for some I guess.

This is where I usually say I already have all I need, but this time I’ll refrain from that…..

Alliant just removed themselves from the market. When Hodgdon does the same, (and that may happen very soon) I’ll re-evaluate my take.

It makes me wonder about the RCBS acquisition. Why would they want to sell reloading hardware if no one can get powder. Maybe they feel most folks have stockpiled powder, and hardware sales will continue unabated. I really don’t know. My two cents.

Other than reloading equipment, what else could be manufactured in a precision metals factory during a national emergency. Smart move for them if they are hearing war drums.

The Chinese are intentionally shorting nitrocellulose to help Putin in Ukraine.

No nitrocellulose for the west, no ammo for Putin’s opponents .

Xi gets oil, Putin gets ammo.

A pound??

Why bother??

That's over 1700 rounds of my 4.0 grain .38 Special load. Seems like it would get most a fair way along.

Does anybody have an actual link to Alliant or Vista announcing this?

Original post (or a least the thread title) stated the information came from Powder Valley. I get daily emails from PV and checked their website, nothing about this.

What exactly is the raw component, or components that nitrocellulose is made from? My limited education suggests a plant material of some sort. I know that cotton was used at one time for powder making. After no cotton raised in Prairie County, Arkansas for several years, it is back and more acreage each year. We also have a new factory making primers. miles

Alliant just like Hodgdon are distributors not a manufacturer. Much of Alliant’s powder is manufactured in Sweden and Switzerland by others

Those overseas manufacturing plant are no longer supply the US market

Any source of cellulose.

In WWII, the US used cellulose from wood pulp, the Germans got theirs from cotton. As a result, German powder burned marginally cleaner, but, in the midst of shortages of everything imported, the Germans had to decide between making powder and making clothes. Not a good trade-off.
