i just purchased a belgian made browning BLR at an antique gun show. i have always wanted one, but when i realized they only made them in belgium for 3 years i gave up hope of finding one. then i saw this one at the show. i picked it up and saw that it was a .308, then i saw "unfired" on the tag. the thing that really took me was when i rolled the rifle over and saw "MADE IN BELGIUM." i talked about the rifle with the owner and figure out with the serial number that it was made in 1969. i bought the rifle on the spot!!! i went there planning to buy a 1886 winchester, which i had in my hand as i was walking out, then this rifle caught my eye. i was just curious though, does anyone know the true value of a rifle like this one??? it is fitted with a "Williams Gunsight Scope" which i thought was another rare feature. any information on a find like this would be appreciated. thank you.

Really clean BLRs often go for $600.00 or better like the one you describe. Sometimes more, the .358Win is the rarest and often most desired.

the BLR i purchased, is in 100% mint condition. the only thing i could find wrong with it, was that there wasnt a box to go with it. i was also curious as to how accurate they are at 200 yards?

thanks

I can`t comment on the cartridge or your rifle at 200 yd but, my younger brother has a Belgian made BLR of ~`70/`73 vintage with a old Weaver 4X that will keep 3 in 1.25"-1.75" at 100 with most any ammo fed it. I`d expect yours will do similar.

1.25 TO 1.5 is what the gun will mostly do. The light profile barrel and the barrel band are the main reasons.

Now just because you do not see them on tactical teams or in benchrest does not mean that they are "bad" at that accuracy range. that is the practical accuracy to take animals at practical ranges within that cartridgfes well, practical range.

the addition of the clip loading and hammer firing make it one of the best values aroun and, er, um....well, just too darned practical to pass up!

I love my 4 BLRs,
30/06,358 win,450 marlin,257 roberts
ALL will produce at least a 1.5" or smaller group off the bench with good ammo and the 257 roberts and 358 win easily shoot 1" groups with some loads, most will shoot into a 3" at 200 yards or less, tight enought groups that hitting game where you intended too at 300 yards is easily done

I bought a new BLR just like yours in 1970, and have shot more deer with it than I can count. Mine will shoot moa all day with Fed. Premium 168 gr. PSP. Before I found the Federals I used Remington 150's that averaged around 1.5 moa.. It's a great little gun.

If you can find the right collector you might get more for your 100% gun than you think. I've been offered $500 for mine, and it's well used.
