The Iver Johnson's were made in Germany by Erma. A good friend has used one for 30 years without problem. Cosmetically the finish tends to flake from the action which is a zinc alloy. While I don't know what changes may have been made over the years, I understand that the original Erma machinery was later bought by an outfit in New York called Henry Rifle Co.
