Brother in law just picked up a Marlin model 57. Damn good lookin wood. Lever feels crisp, locks up tight. Don't know anything about em. How do they stack up against the competition? With open sights, my less than stellar vision did a couple decent groups at 50 yds. Opinions???

See, no one wants those things, tell your brother in Law to get rid of that thing. I'll throw in $150 bucks just to see thats its disposed of properly by my own hands.

They were wonderfully made guns...came in many different styles and calibers all the way up to .357 Magnum.

I had a 57M .22 Magnum that would put Winchester 40 gr. HPs in 3/8" groups all day long...one of those that should not have been sold...

If memory serves me, tube fed .22's were Models 57/57M (mag), clip fed .22's were Model 56's, centerfires were Model 62's, all clip fed.

I guessing there aren't many of these out there. My initial question hasen't generated many responses pertaining to acuracy, durability or dependability. I'm going to look into picking one up myself. I sorta got attatched to my BILs 57. IMO, just a darn good lookin 22 lever.

I see them from time to time. I think I just saw one a couple weeks ago at a local shop. I will call and see if they still have it. I 'll hook you up. Mark.

Hey Mark,
I appreciate that. Tomorrow I'll be hitting a gun show with the model 57 radar cranked up on high. But let me know what you find. Are they as acurate as I've heard? BIL has only shot his 1 time, with open sights. So I can't use his as a reference.

Found a 90%+ 57 at the gun show yesterday. So hopefully I'll be able to answer a few of my own question myself. I couldn't find any time frame on what years marlin did model variations, such as my BILs 57 has the pinch rails on top of the receiver to accept scope mounts. Mine doesn't. I have a gold trigger, his is black. If anybody knows when the changes occured, I'ld love to know. Lack of serial # doesn't help.

If'n you get tired of the lack of info and interest in that relic, you could always use Tony's M57 disposal Co. No fee for guy's over 40......LOL

Hey Mr. Sav,
Your going to have to do better n that to get this jewel outa my hands. Maybe if you can control your self, I'll send you some sweet pictures of her in provocative poses. ;)I'll let you know how well it goes at the range when I get some glass on it.

Buy it quick. I've had a Model 56 since 1962. Clip fed instead of tube like Model 57. Very accurate rifle that will be handed down to my son.

Actually, I did buy it quick. That is my 57 in Savarinos' pictures. Only shot it once so far, and with open sights at 50 yards, an I was very happy. Since then I've mounted a weaver on top of the 57 , but haven't made it to the range yet. Will let you know how good it groups under glass. Talked to a few fellers at shows that said they haven't seen one "not shoot good" yet. Got 4 different typs of ammo to check out.
