Anyone familiar with the Rem.30 .30Rem? Is it possible to rechamber to say a .30-06? It appears to be a small tapered shank-is that the correct term? The rifle in question has been rust blued with Pilks and done well and I do like the little stock with the schnable - it does have the cross bolt behind the recoil lug. Has a nicely done rust blued Lyman 48 along with the original pinned front sight-sloppy at best for reliable accuracies.

I am one to not store a rifle of any caliber if I cannot use it so......with out rebarreling this, is it possible? This has gone thru 2 owners I am aware of an they too cringed at the thought as I do at the impossible possibility of rechambering etc.....

Why not just shoot it as a .30 Rem? While 30Rem brass isn't going to be available at the corner gun store you should be able to find some to reload for it.

You might even be anle to make it out of 6.8SPC brass.

That is kind of a broad question.

What kind of action is it? It sounds like a bolt. If so, rechambering is likely doable. The barrel shank may not be long enough to handle a rechamber to a 30-06 though.

If you want it to feed out of the magazine the .308 wiould prabaly be easier to get to feed and the 300 Savage easier yet.

Some actions that hold the 30 Rem like 93/95 mausers are a little weak for the '06/308 in my opinion. The 300 Savage operates at lowwer pressures and has a lot of power it works good in a 93 Mauser.

The .30 Remington is smaller than an '06 or .308 so it would likely have to have the bolt face opened up if it is a bolt.

The .35 Remington is a little closer but they aren't the same case.

Since a Remington 30 is just Remington's commercial version of the Enfield P14/1917, it could easily be rebarreled to any cartridge that will fit in its magazine. If you want to go to a 30-06, it might be easier/cheaper to go with a 1917 Enfield barrel.

Depending on the condition of the rifle, and how attached you are to it, you might want to check with some Remington collectors before you start rechambering it.

There were not that many of these made in .30 Rem caliber and you might find that the gun is worth a bunch as is.

A friend opened one up to .308 and then wore the barrel out.
After that it was re-barreled to .270.

The bolt face would need to be opened up to .473, and the magazine
changed to the larger/longer cartridge.

As others have said, you might be better off selling it to someone that wants a .30 Remington, either for a shooter or a collection.

Bob, the P-17 action aka. Rem. 30 is a "big" action and can accept up to a .416 Rigby. With a such a "puny" cartridge as the .30 Rem. I find it rather amusing that it was chambered as such:)- I may just use it and harvest me a moose or a bear sometime. Should do well with the 170 Partitions I have loaded for it.

I would leave this one alone and preserve a bit of history. Most of the .30 Rem M30 Remingtons have been rechambered, so this one should excite the collectors (condition permitting of course).

1) you can't make brass out of the 6.8 Stupid Puny Crap, as they shortened the 30 REM case by quite a bit.

You can make 30 Rem brass out of 30-30 Win brass, with a couple simple lathe cuts (remove rim, cut extractor groove). Even easer is converting 25 or 32 Rem brass, as that's a simple neck resize.
Dies and load data are easy, as the 30Rem AKA 30-30 Rem is a rimless version of the 30-30 Win AKA 30 WCF. The only difference is the shell holder.

Just buy 30 remington brass from Graf and Sons. Remington does limited runs and they had some last month, because I bought another 200 rounds to add to my anti-Hillary stores....I would refrain from a rechamber as its already been said, there are those that would buy an original versus a rechamber.
