Well it worked a while back when I asked about a load for my 243 so lets give 'er another try.

I want to play around with the 75gr A-Max in my .223, but am also pinching pennies. So do you have a pet load or any suggestions for a starting point?

Start low and work up....grin.

I run 25gr of '15 in Lapua hulls under the 75 A-max for 2900fps....and that is my FF loads in my 223AI. That load will get you to 1K and that's not guessing.

mud bogger ...

I'm running a 1:9" twist 24.5" bbl'd .223rem ... and I love the 75g Amax in that rifle ... here's my load, for reference ...

moly coated 75g Amax, seated out to the lands ...
R-P brass (nickel, but normal brass would be same/same)
WSR primers
24.0g H335

this gives me a solid 2,950 fps, and a very stable bullet ...

Keep in mind, R-P brass has more case capacity than lots of other brass, and I'm running moly coated bullets ... so 24.0g of H335 might be more than most can safely run ...

but I'd suggest working up towards that basic load, or perhaps try working up with Reloader 15 ... I suggest that, because I don't get nearly as small an ES number as I'd like with H335, and am going to try RE-15 myself soon enough ...

as per usual, start low and work up slowly ... in that small a case, 0.3g increments is a good 'step' between loads while working up ...

Got a few loads put together an I'll try 'em out tomorrow.

How easy is it to modify a magbox so I can run the bullets out longer? Its in a hawkeye if that makes any difference
