What do you guys think of the sako 75 with the bolt lock?

I don't know many that "like" it. By that I mean people that would have wanted it as an option if they could have had the choice. However, knock on wood, I haven't heard any negative reports about it either in terms of breaking or anything. I just leave mine unlocked in fact I have never even locked it and dont know how.

I have read exactly one negative report on the Sako integral bolt lock. It involved a "faulty primer' (overcharged cartridge?) where enough gas was routed back to the shooter's face to leave pockmarks on his glasses.

Now, let me qualify that. This was only one report from an individual who may have had an agenda. I have no concrete reason to believe he had an agenda but something triggered my BS radar--I just can't explain what it was. I also don't know if the Sako locking bolts are designed in such a way that would make them worse at handling gas than the original style 75 bolt. There's a lot I don't know.

I'm "pro-choice" on the subject of idiot proofing firearms. If somebody feels better having integral bolt or trigger locks, or having the user manual stamped into their rifle, then I say: "More power to you". I just won't buy one. You can still buy "excellent" or "unfired" examples of rifles made before lawyers and accountants ran the business. Those are what I crave, anyway.

I only mention this to ellicit a response from someone who has seen engineering drawings (the Sako website offers only fluff) or has taken one apart and understands the design well enough to comment. I occasionally feel like I want to go to a store, slap some money on the counter, and walk out with a new rifle. The Sako 75 (without a lock) is the one I'd most likely put in my safe.

BTW, Sako says that they can sell every 75 they build. Seems to be a successful model.

I have one on my Sako 300 rum. and never use it, keep all the key's and spare part's that come with in a place where i know where they will be when i need them. That way i'm sure i will never find them. Rick.

I wouldn't let the lock bother me. I've got 3 Sako 75's, 1 with the lock and 2 without and I really don't notice it. I've got a couple of Remingtons with the "J" lock and THAT I notice!

For me it's a matter of principle, I will never own a gun of any kind with a built-in lock on it. They most likely work just fine and nobody here will ever have a malfunction, but a malfunction is not my concern. Gun control is. Smart gun technology sort of fell on it's face a few years back. I feel like these guns with locks built into them are taking a bit different path to the same destination, and this is only the first step. I'll not support any gunmaker who puts these things on their guns, period. And I am a Sako fan, just like mine a bit older.
