just brought it home. It is a used Daina Model48/52. No directions came with it and I screwed up on the first cocking attempt. The little lever nexst to the chamber barely moves and the cocking arm is at full open. I cannot get the lever with the graduated stops to drop and allow the action to close. I am not forcing things --- yet.

Any hints?

did u cock it all the way back, i just sold a mod 54 one step up from your and when u cock it you swing it down and it feels like it stops. then give it just a bit more , then press the saftey catch to let your arm swing back towards the barrel.

hope this helps

Thanks CLOS,

I suspect you are right. I tralekd with Umarex Service and they said largely the same thing. Now to try it. I've been reluctant to force it.... but that looks like the answer.

You shouldn't have to force it at all. I've got the 48. You pull the large lever back towards the rear of the stock, and then once it is at maximum pull (the handle should be about perpendicular to the stock at this point), release the catch and the handle will glide all the way back to the start position. The "pull" part of the cocking stroke does take some pressure, but it shouldn't feel like you are forcing anything. Once it is fully cocked, you will feel a slight letup in pressure. As with most German machinery, force isn't part of the equation smile

Good luck with a great rifle.

Thanks for all the help. It was pure operator error on my part. I was reluctatn to pull the arm back as far as it needed to go for a ful cock.

It is all set up now. I scoped it with an ilumiated reticle Walther 6x 30 mm and a new set of mounts from RSW.

Now to shoot it at the local indoors range.
