Anybody have an idea just what the issues were that caused Marlin to pull the plug?

akpls....i would think that the way some folks were slamming marlin's quality control, calling out the moderator who is a marlin employee, and using the forum to find that loading that is 1gr. shy of disaster might have contributed. IMHO .....bearit......

I think that Marlin Talk was very popular. That meant it became very high maintenance for Ed and his staff. I'm sure Ed is responsible for other IT functions at Marlin and the site was becoming time consuming. Now a corporation can view such popularity in different ways. But for it to be viewed as positive requires management to see or perceive some kind of return. Much of the discussion that placed demands on the service came on the BIG BORE RIFLE and MISCELLANEOUS MARLIN TALK forums. And much of that discussion had little to do with Marlin products. There was also the issue of information that could make management uncomfortable, such as reload data, poor practices or wild claims, product criticisms and political discussions. That the site could not be moderated due to staffing limitations, discussion wandered dramatically and it required increasing attention probably led to its demise. It was a good thing while it lasted, I guess we will have to move on without it.

Thanks to RickBin for providing this forum!

Hey Guys!

Arizona here...

Sure glad to see some of the old MT brothers here. What a shocker to have it dump on us so abruptly. Don't appreciate that part of how they did it, but I can see why they probably did.

Hopefully most of us can re-congregate and get back to where we left off!

I really liked the site but have always slipped around into several of the gun oriented sites. There were so many good posters that the 3 or 4 no brainers caused Marlin Talk to close. Recent ridiculous load data on the 45-70 is a good starting point though several of us protested. The odd quality bashers. I am not saying every Marlin is perfect but he last 3 new ones I bought were. Marlin always worked with me if I needed anything so whats the deal with the whiners?

I have a feeling that one thread with about 200 posts on how crappy the safety was, and how to defeat it, probably contributed to MT's demise. I can see the head legal honcho saying, "Pull the Plug now"....
