Cheapo bolt gun: $320. 130gr CoreLokt:$15. Old Leupold 4X and Weaver rings:$100? First four shots in under .75":Priceless! Oh that all my guns shot this nice, at any price! Chronos faster than my Winchester and Steyr. More accurate with factory junk than either of them also. Still waiting on the 25-06 to arrive.

More to come. From: http://outdoorlife.blogs.com/thegunshots/"To follow on the success of last year's XL7 bolt-action rifle, Marlin is going to come to market with a short-action version of the same. The initial caliber offerings will be .243 Win., .308 Win. and 7mm-08 Rem.. The rifle will come in three trim packages: a plain black synthetic stock, a camo version wearing RealTree APG-HD (shown above) and a compact, youth version."

Uh oh! That stirs the pot. I too, am looking to lay hands on a .25-06, but I may wait.
If it is truly a short action, and not a long action with a bolt stop. I am interested in a .308 for sure. May also be interested in a .243 for a calling rifle for yotes.

That's impossible you have to have a $1000 rifle to shoot under a inch!! That rifle has to be from the custom shop! Grin

I looked at one and the very first thing that caught my eye was the safety catch. If it had looked like a Remington I would have liked it a lot better. As it is (was?) it is just a flat stamped piece of metal. Not to worry though... the gun is not made in a left handed version so I'll not be buying one. Same with the new Model 70. No lefty, no sell to me.

Glad to hear the report. Looking to get one in .25-06 when I get home. Heck, I may wait and get a .308 or 7mm-08 instead. I'll definitly look into a youth version. My oldest will be able to carry afield in about 2 more years.

I talked to Marlin Customer Service on Friday (10/17) about the XL in .25/06.
The lady said they were having some sort of technical issue with the .25 caliber barrel rifling button and it would probably be the end of 2008 to early 2009 before any quantities of the .25/06 were shipped.
Thus far she said only about 100 .25/06's (black stock guns) had been produced and shipped.

Looked at one today, 30-06 black rifle. For the price it looked and felt pretty good. If they are shooting that well I may have to look closer. a guy can always use a bad weather beater/loaner rifle.

Beater/loaner is why I picked up the 270. But after shooting it with 6 different loads and zeroing with the Fed 140 TBBC, that were on sale cheap at Midway, it may get some carry time by myself. R-P CoreLokt shoot a little better but the TBBC is supposed to be a better bullet. Don't personally know as I've never killt anything with either. FUN to shoot. I'd recommend that you all go out and buy one,or two, and raise the happy factor of us all.

Our XL7 in .270 has been a very good purchase. Hope it ends up being a winner for Marlin.

I bought a Stevens 200 in .300 win mag a few years back,it shot and carried so good it replaced my favorite elk rifle a Sako .338 win Mag.
I to have been waiting on the 25-06 from Marlin, that will be my next purchase if I don't get tempted on another 25-06. BBJ

Anyone know if the barrel threads are the same size as a Savage?

Do you know what the spec are for the diameter, length, and TPI count are for the Marlin?

Considering they shipped 100 of the .25-06 so far, I wonder how they shoot if they were having a problem with the button rifling tool? I've had money down on a .25 XL7C for months, and I wont wait for the end of 2008. Even at $300, I'd rather spend some more and get what I want now.

There is a member here at the fire that has one in a .25-06, but I can't remember who. I don't remember him saying if he had shot it yet or not.

marlinman93, You say you are waiting arrival of a 25-06 also but you call it a XL7C. Is that a newer variation or change? I don't recall seeing a "c" on either the 30-06 or 270 the local shop had.

If I'm not mistaken the XL7C is the the model that comes with the camo stock.
