Back in '73 I bought my first rifle, a Marlin 336C in, what else, 30-30. Since then the safe has filled with all manner of fine bolt guns, including a few new "campfire" remmy's complete with the latest technology has to offer in stocks and whatnot. For some reason the other day as I was heading out for a 3 day jaunt, I reached into the back of the safe and pulled out the Marlin. I was gonna be hunting in the thick stuff, so I figured it was time to give her some woods time. Well, now I remember why I bought that rifle in the first place. After carrying bolt guns for so long, I'd forgotten how well a lever fits in the hand and how nice the balance is when it hits your shoulder. Yesterday I shot a nice doe with it, one shot through the lungs, she went about 70 yards and piled up. I've got two tags left to fill, and I reckon the old thutty-thutty will be in my hands for the rest of the season. Hunting with my old friend is just plain fun!
