I just purchased a huge lot of reloading components. Among the powders are a couple of unopened pounds of Hercules Reloader 21
and a few 400gram tins of Norma 205.
I'm sure they're quite old as the reloader 21 is still sporting a $2.39 price tag!
My reloading manuals are too new. No data for these powders.
I'm sure the Re21 is going to be close to Re22, but I'd like some published data on these powders...

If anyone has any information for me or can refer me to a reloading manual that has data for these powders, I's surely appreciate it.

Thanks

Ken Waters' Pet Loads has both with a few carts.

RL-21 is NOT even close to present day RL-22!

What carts? I can look them up for you if you need them..

I'd also make sure they are good...

Wow... Thanks for the quick replies.
All of the powders are still factory sealed. Before messing with them, I'll have them looked at to make sure the powder is good.
Since I don't know the burn rate of either if these powders, I'll list all the cartridges i reload:
22-250 rem
243 win.
25-06 rem
.257 WBY
6.5X55 swede
7mm RUM (I know, I know.... too new, no published data)
.308 win
.300 Win Mag
.375/338 (.375 Chatfield-Taylor)

22-250: 50gr Hornady 36 gr. Re21 CCI Mag 3,653
243 Win.100gr. Gardiner 48 gr. N-205 3,173
100gr. Sierra SP 39gr. Re-21 2,900
80 gr. Gardiner O.P. 41gr. Re-21 3,200

25/06: 100gr Speer HP 57 gr. N-205 Rem. 9 1/2 M R-P cas 3,401
115 Nosler 54.5 N-205 Rem 9 1/2M R-P case 3,155
117 Sierra 55gr. N-205 Rem 9.5M R-P case 3,240
308 Win: 170gr. Speer FP 40 grs. Re-21 Fed 210 2,200
300 H&H 180gr. Sierra 71 grs. N-205 2,865
150 Sierra 62 gr. Re-21 3,100

I'd have to read through the literature and pull primers/cases, but it looks like they are 4064 speed or a tick slower. Then again, all powder lots vary and act different in different ctgs.

Most of this data is from the late sixties early seventies era, so those bullet styles apply, as does the lack of speed accuracy (I dunno how accurate his "chrony" was or break screen).

Of course these are Ken's loads for Ken's guns only and should be thoroughly worked up in your own gun......

Thanks a bunch Hawk!

Ross, I'll most likely be texturing the walls on the addition on Sat., but I may come by early and take a look at what you got.

By the way, I opened one of the Norma 205s. It looks like, feels like and smells like.... smokeless powder. How does one determine if it good or not?

thanks again,

JJ

No acidic odor outside of the normal scent smokeless gives off. If yer nose and eyes feel burny chuck it.

I'd be interested in what you think of them, especially the Re-21.

Did Hercules actually make Re-11 and 21, or was it made by Scot or some other overseas mfg?

Anyone ever come across any H205?
