My cabella's grinder says to lube with food grade silicone before using and after using? The problem is, I don't have any and I'm ready to grind some venison tomorrow. I only have about 30 lbs to grind and stuff some casings with sausage. I'm wondering if I can just spray it with veg. oil or something?? How important is it to lube with the silicone before use???

I have a cabelas grinder. The silicon lube is recommended as it will not gum up or possible go rancid like vegetable oil. That said for a one time deal and no long term storage the veg oil spray will be fine. Just make sure to clean very well so you have no oil to gum up when you store the grinder. I got the silicon spray from cabelas. After using and cleaning the grinder i just lay all the parts out on towels give it a good spray. As soon as the excess runs off I reassembly. That's it I put it away until I need it again. I don't lube before using. After countless deer it is still going fine.
