In the market for a 7mm SAUM .

I'm really leaning toward the Remington Sendero.

This is what the rifle will be used for-
40% bench shooting.
50% stand hunting. 0 to 400 yards.
10% walking & still hunting.

Or should I go with a Model Seven ?

One spectrum to the other. If you go Sendero, I'd take the stock off and buy either a Holland Laminate or one of his McMillan made glass stocks. I have a Sendero 7STW and personally, I think the factory HS stock is THE most uncomfortable stock out there.

It seems like your considering the Model 7 for only 10% of your use.
I would think you will be much happier with the heavier barrel for your other uses. They are quicker to steady for the longer ranges.

The Sendero is every thing I wont. What scares me is the 26" barrel length.
My perfect rifle would be a 22" Sendero or maybe the new Remington LV SF chambered in 7mm SAUM.

why dont you just get a SUCKS SS with the plastic stock and find a take off LV SF stock?

Most gunsmiths I know would charge you maybe 20-30 bucks to shorten your 26" Sendero to 22"... If that's your perfect rifle. It's easy to get there...

I believe the flutes run out to around 1 1/2" from the end of the barrel before it runs back smoth. If I cut off four inchs the flutes would just run out over the end off the barrel.

I geuss that would be O.K. - It would just have that chopped off look.

I think Remington should have went with a 24" barrel with the SAUM in the Sendero. If you needed more velocity go with the long action Ultra Mags with the 26" barrels. That 's just my opinion. - To bad Remington doesnt call me first <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

For optimal powder burn the Ultra's should be in 28" barrels. I rebarrelled my 300 WBY in a 29" Sendero contour and don't really notice the extra 3". I do agree the SAUM bbls are too long in the Sendero.

A 15" 7-08 XP-100 with turrets,stomps a 43" 300Wby without.

Well I bought the Sendero today.

The stock is nice for the bench, but it leaves alot to be desired as a hunting outfit.

Trip the stock as NIB for $150-ish and slam a 'Net Special McMillan on it.

Then you'll have something..................

I really like the Sendero. I can't decide on a scope. I was thinking about going with a silver finish, possibly a Weaver Grand Slam. I'm just not to crazy about having a rifle, base, rings and scope all a different color silver. I've never had much luck at matching a silver scope on a stainless rifle.
I will probably go with a matte Bushnell Elite 4200.

This was the nastiest new rifle I have ever bought. It took over an hour to get it all cleaned up. Had some sort of graphite type residue all over the metal.

I was really worried about the total size and weight of the rifle. I attached a sling on it and walked around the back yard and it felt fine. Hey I'm ready to go hunting!

Big Stick makes a good point about the HS stock. If it isn't what you like, strip it and sell it unused. I have two HS stocks that are older ones that were made okay and shoot excellent. Two other new ones were TOTAL and I mean TOTAL junk. I won't buy another HS stock. Their QC has gone in the toilet and their stocks less than stiff.

The Leupold silver mounts and rings match Remington's finish very well, so do the Leupold silver scopes. Don't waste your money on Bushnelle scopes. If you plan on actually using the rifle a lot, the Bushnelle will let you down sooner or later. If it is going to be a safe queen, the Bushnelle scope will be fine <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> I have simply will not own anything made by Bushnelle. They shoulden't even be allowed to sale their junk scopes. I have lost a fortune sending Bushnelle crap back to Bushnelle for repair. I finally gave up and gave all my Bushnelle scopes to the neighborhood kids. Best thing I ever did <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> Flinch

That residue on your rifle was simply a packing grease. When I buy a new rifle, I take it apart and spray the whole thing down with Gun scrubber. Carb and choke cleaner will also work. Use a whole can. A bronze cleaning brush will get the gummed areas. After this is done, wipe dry what did'nt evaporate. Then take a can of Remoil and liberally spray all metal and then stand in a corner on a rag overnight. This will allow the oil to get into the pores of the steel. Stainless will rust and I have found that this method works really well to prevent that. I live in a house that does'nt have heat throughout and really have to watch this.

I had a HS stock at one time too. Hated it.

Just another opinion.....Go with the Grandslam. They are one hell of a scope for the money!! .

You won't know the difference between a 26 inch or 22 inch barrel as far as carrying, but it will make a big difference in velocity and muzzle blast. Traded a Browing 22 inch 2506 in for the Sendero 26 inch barrel. More velocity, less muzzle blast. Carrying no problem . That is what slings are for.

I decided on the Bushnell Elite 4200 4-16x40mm.



I was wonting to try out the Weaver Grand Slam silver finish but chickend out on trying to match silver mounts, scope and rifle.
