I've decided I need a Contender Carbine barrel in 6.8 Rem. SPC. For those that have one, what contour is the factory barrel? The only one of the recent production rifle barrels we have at the store I work at is in .17 HMR and it is basically a bull barrel. Is the factory 6.8 barrel as heavy? I prefer the tapered Fox Ridge barrels and haven't seen one of the factory 6.8s in the flesh. I can deal with it being a trifle heavier than the tapered custom barrels but don't want a bull barrel for this little rifle. If need be I'll order a custom barrel rather than buy the factory model. Thanx.

I answered my own question. All current "G2" rifle barrels are of the heavy persuasion, which kind of kills the handling qualities of such a tiny rifle. I ordered a custom shop tapered 20 1/2" .25/35 Win barrel several years ago and it makes the Contender one of the handiest little carbines ever. I'll just have to break down and order a custom tapered 6.8 here shortly.
