9.3x62mm favorite bullets and powders???
I was thinking of trying the 250 GR. TSX as the lighter bullet may have a bit less recoil. A bit of an issue cause I am used to the 30 06. But have gotten the 9.3x62mm itch.

What is your favorite loads for the 9.3x62mm guys?

Or at least favorite bullets and powder?

thanks

My favorite bullets for the great 9.3x62 are the Woodleigh bullets in 286 and 320 gr. I suggest you have a 26 inch barrel and load it to max with that 320 gr. Woodleigh also make a 250 gr. bullet but I have not used it on game..I also like the 286 gr. Nosler partition and its a very tough bullet with a world of penetration. The speer 270 is absolutly too soft for me to use for anything but a cheap practice bullet..The Northforks also suited me very well and they kill exceptionally well.

I did shoot a few plainsgame animals with the GS Customs monolithic HP bullet and it was a fantastic bullet. I believe it weighed 230 to 250 grs. Can't recall exactly..

When I had a 9.3x62 I liked Reloder 15 and 250 gr Woodleigh Weldcores. I see no need for heavy bullets unless you want to shoot really big game with it. If you're planning to use a 9.3x62 to hunt Cape buffalo or some such, 300-320 gr bullets would definitely be an advantage. Otherwise, 250-286 gr bullets are plenty.

And Norma makes a dandy 232 gr if you really want to jump velocities up a bit.

If you have a CZ I'm make it even simpler.

OAL = 3.275 (250 gr. TSX)

56.5 grains of Varget.

CZ 550FS:

Hornady and Nosler Partition 286 gr. with RL15

Ramshot Big Game also shows promise. The Speer 270 gr. is not as accurate as the Hornadys but is less expensive.

In my Mark-X Mauser full stock carbine, 20" bbl, I have had the best luck with N-201 and Vihtavouri N-135 . I can't recall the exact load, but I used the same charge with 270 gr. Speers for near 2400 f.p.s.

FWIW, I agree with Ray Atkinson, they are too soft for anything except deer.

I intend to try the Ballistic Tips in my Ruger #1 w/23.6" bbl. I've heard good things about the 286 gr. Hornady's, but have not tried them, as yet.

I've tried the 250 gr. Barnes X's but as usual they yeild 4"-6" groups at 100 yds. I find that unacceptable. And thus far, have never hunted game with them. I expect to remain that way. smile

FWIW, I always thought the 250 gr. was the perfect 9.3 bullet weight.

The 258 gr. RWS bullet is nicely accurate in my Mauser, but they are extremely scarce... frown
