I find scopes to be hard to use quickly. I want to put the games spine along the horizontal wire. What scope or crosshair type feels more like a peep sight?

Post reticles. Some have the horizontal line built in as well.
Lower power is easier to pick up game, if you are used to peep sights.

I just don't like the thick post if I need to hold over the target any. It covers up too much to suit me.

Have you ever tried an Aimpoint? They're not cheap or as light as most of the reddot type sights but they are very easy to use and about as durable as a hammer. The newest CCOs have outstanding battery life. You just put the dot where you want the bullet to strike. You can use it at a considerable distance if you apply basic marksmanship fundamentals.

Aimpoints are the primary sight used by the Army on the M-4 and M-16 to deployed troops. It's called a CCO or Close Combat Optic. It's very good, unlike many cheaper reddot type sights, for engaging targets at a moderate distance despite the fact it is unmagnified.(The dot at about 4 moa or about one mil doesn't cover a 300m silhouette from side-to-side) It is faster and more accurate than peep sights in use.
Battery life on the new model is simply unreal. (80 thousand hours battery life on the halfway setting)Batteries are easily replaced AAs.
Aimpoint now has a model that mounts like a conventional scope for about $400 as well.
I don't have any experience with the Zeiss Z- point but that looks intriguing because it self regulates dot brightness and runs on solar power during daylight. It was originally designed as a submachinegun sight before going on the sporting market. I don't know how well it would do at holding groups at 200 meters or so. I would be interested to know the answer if anyone here has relevant experience.

Just make sure that your scope is mounted at the right hieght for your body and that it's a low powered scope and you will be just as quik, or quicker, with a scope then you are with a peep sight. Plus the low light capabilities are much better with the scope. Of course you will need to practice with thescope to get the speed where it should be.

I see way to many 4-12x or 6-20x scopes mounted way up high and this is no combination for speed.

A low powered scope with a post reticle is my choice.....good enough for big game to respectable distances also.....

One of the early El Paso Weaver K-4 scopes has a 2 minute, dark black dot in the center of the crosswires. Closest thing with glass I've used that gets on 'em the way a peep does.

The old Weaver K1 and K1.5 with a PCH reticle looks a lot like a peep sight. I have an old Normark Aim-Point that is really quick too, but it doesn't transfer light as well as the old Weaver K1.5 that I had on a Winchester 100.

I've had Weaver dot scope, maybe a Redfield post and crosshair is the closest I'll come. They still go pricey tho.

Pretty good! My back doesn't hurt, but my shoulder is a little stiff and I only have about 1/2 the strength in my left hand as before the fall. PT says that it can take a year or more for 100% recovery, but I'll tell ya, I'm getting damned tired of squeezing that [bleep] rubber ball!

The Trijicons are great. Also great are old Noskes, Weavers, Unertls, Weavers, etc. with post sights.
