Season opened here last Monday and gobbling has been almost non-existent all week long.
However, on Friday morning, after using about every call I had in my vest since first light at 5:30 AM, I finally had a couple of birds respond (very reluctantly) to my box call about three hours later.
They came in almost silently to my single hen deke which was positioned about 15 yards out in front of my Double Bull blind and when the opportunity presented itself, I put a Gold Tip Gladiator through the strutter's vitals.
He flopped around a little and tried to launch, but I knew when I saw where the arrow hit him that he wasn't going anywhere.
Well, I have one tag left and about 25 more days to fill it.
Really don't care if I do or not, as long as the birds are gobbling and there's a chance that I may be able to convince a tom to come over and visit that "lonely hen" that keeps yelping at him........
