Whacked a black bear a couple days ago with my new 375 Ruger using the factory 270 grain Spire points and I have to say that it was the most impressive DRT I have ever seen. Black bears arent thick skinned or heavy boned but they do have the tendancy to try and get away when hit , if even to only get 20-30 yards before crashing. This bear literally flipped over, tensed up and just layed there bawling like a SOB. I hit the bear just behind the shoulder hitting neither shoulder. The entrance hole was caliber sized and the exit was the size of a tangerine. As it bawled the blood just dumped out of the exit hole, I literally watched the bears lips turn white as it bled out in a matter of seconds. I will be doing some loading for this rifle in the near future, but the factory stuff I am shooting right now appears to work just fine. Wasn't a big bear, but it'll make some great sausage.

Cool, you should see a 257 Roy knock the wet off them.

Bear have all that hair and it soaks up blood like a sponge so the big bores do get the blood out and on the ground if they run, and that is very important to recovery of a soft footed animal. I think the 375 Ruger is ideal for bear, any bear.

Watching the black knocked off one at 325 yards with a 264Win mag was pretty impressive also.

I have killed quite a few blacks, with all sorts of weapons. I have seen flip and roll around and then die, I have seen em flip over and crawl, and of course I have seen em just sprint off but not get very far. The shock wave that the 375 Ruger delivered was veddy impressive. No big bones hit, all lung and heart, and the brain never registered the flee thought at all, it was too cool. I cant wait to load some 300 grain Nosler Partitions/Accubonds up for this thing. This is the largest caliber rifle I have ever owned and I have always heard guys say that the 375 is the starting point for "stopping" calibers for dangerous game, all I can say is .......I'm impressed! Now if only I can draw a Kodiak brown bear tag to test this thing out on!...grin

I would like to know how those 300gr NPs do for you on a Brownie.

I was told late July/early August.

As much as love my 9.3x62 and the .375 H&H, I'm finding myself even more impressed with the .375 Ruger.

Had the same experience with a black bear in AK last spring. I was shooting 300 TSXs and hit the off shoulder. DRT and rolled downhill. Works just as well on browns with the same bullet.

Late summer would be just right for the arrival of a new .375 Ruger. Plenty of time to get it up and running before the hunting seasons open.

Depends on whether you're hunting brown bear and a black happens along. Then again you may want to use a 22LR on both, never know.

AlaskaCub,,,,,,,,,I would also be curious as to what effect the 225 gr Hornady SPs would have on black bear. I`m sure they`d have the same similiar results on black bear. Plan on loading up some 225s?

In case you do, here`s a screamer load for ya! I loaded up some Hornady 225 gr SPs and worked up to 79.8 gr RL15, which chrony`d @ 3016 fps from my .375 Ruger Alaskan. The 3 shot groupings averaged 1.15" OD.

I got that load by an e/mail directly from Hornady after calling them and requesting any load data for a 20" tubed 375 Ruger. Their 20" tubed info sent to me, showed 79.5 gr RL15 @ 3000 fps.

I don`t think that there are any 225 gr factory loadings available yet for the 375 Ruger.

Maybe in Quebec they're smaller... but we've got a lot of 400-500 pounders here in Ontario, especially since they closed the spring season...

Today I was putting out bait and the trail in (or, down) had a big bruin's paw prints that had slipped in the wet leaves, etc. They were HUGE! He' been to my bait a couple of times already!

Do ya think that my CZ550 in 458WM is enough with 350TSX's moving out from the muzzle at 2750 fps?

I've given some thought to turning my old 700 into a 375 Rugger via a 4 weight Schneider cut to 23". Tween that and my G33 in 270 and my old Kimber 223 life is pretty much covered. Just don't tell my wife that...

Give the 260 Accu and some R15 a go and see how it perks. I'm for bettin it'll do very well.
