Never doubt that a few committed people can change the world. In fact, it's the only thing that ever has."
Look at the list of ingredients on one of your drinks or products. I guarantee you will most likely find High Fructose Corn Syrup as one of the ingredients.

Hfcs is now commonly found in almost all processed foods, including:

* soft drinks (Coca-Cola, Pepsi)
* fruit juices (Snapple, Ocean Spray Cranberry )and canned fruits
* breakfast cereals (Kelloggs cornflakes)
* ice cream and dairy products (Dreyers, Yoplait yogurts)
* cookies and crackers (Nabisco Ritz crackers)
* soups and sauces (Campbells vegetable soup)
* condiments and salad dressings (Heinz ketchup)
* baking products and baked goods (Brownberry bread)
* candy bars and gum (PowerBar)
* jams, jellies and syrup (Smuckers grape jelly)
* cough syrups and low-fat diet foods (Robitussin, Vicks)

Food manufacturers embraced High Fructose Corn Syrup because it is cheaper than sucrose (table sugar) and mixes well with a variety of products, including beverages, baked goods, jams and jellies, candies, and dairy products.

Excess fructose intake has been associated with adverse health effects such as:
metabolic syndrome, elevated triglyceride levels, hypertension, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, excess uric acid levels (associated with gout), and elevated levels of advanced glycation end products (linked with aging and complications of diabetes).

Excess fructose intake may contribute to hypertension. High blood pressure is a well-known comorbidity associated with obesity, hyperinsulinemia, and hyperlipidemia

Reasons why you should avoid HCFS:

* Travels straight to the liver where it is metabolized to fat. Fructose converts to fat more than any other sugar.
* Contributes to the development of diabetes and tissue damage. A recent study presented at the 2007 national meeting of the American Chemical Society found new evidence that soft drinks sweetened with high fructose corn syrup contains high levels of reactive compounds that have been shown by others to trigger cell and tissue damage that cause diabetes.
* Does not stimulate insulin production or enhance, leptin, a hormone involved in appetite regulation. Because insulin and leptin act as key signals in regulating how much food you eat, this suggests that dietary fructose may contribute to increased food consumption and weight gain.
* Contains no enzymes, vitamins or minerals; instead, it takes micro-nutrients from your body. The fructose in HFCS is different from the natural fructose you get when you eat a small piece of whole fruit, which contains the nutrients needed for your body to assimilate sugar.
* Increases your triglyceride and LDL (bad cholesterol) levels. Triglycerides are the chemical form of fat found in foods and in your body. Studies show that elevated blood levels of triglycerides increases your risk of heart disease.
* Is almost always made from genetically modified corn, which may increase your risk of developing corn food allergies. The problem with corn allergies are that once you have a corn allergy from GMO corn you will have an allergy to even healthy organic corn products.
* Corn based products such as HFCS have also been shown to increase osteoporosis, tooth decay, anemia and osteoarthritis.
* Fructose interacts with birth control pills and can elevate insulin levels in women on the pill.
* Fructose inhibits copper metabolism leading to a deficiency of copper, which can cause increased bone fragility, anemia, ischemic heart disease and defective connective tissue formation among others.

The list goes on and on.

If you want to lose weight and drastically improve your health, stop drinking soda and processed fruit juices. These beverages are sweetened with almost eight teaspoons of fructose per serving. Drink pure water instead and you will be well on your way to improved health. You should also severely limit your consumption of food that contains high fructose corn syrup.

I drink only water, organic milk, fresh squeezed juices, or fresh made lemon aid. I avoid processed foods like the plague for the reasons you mentioned, among other reasons. Pure garbage. Not food.

My diet consists of fresh meats usually cooked rare (other than pork or chicken which I eat fully cooked, or when the meat is stewed or slow braised), fresh fruits and vegetables (almost always raw), fresh organic milk and eggs, cheese, nuts, and seeds. I wish I had a source for non-homogenized non-pasteurized milk, but I don't. Government will arrest anyone who agrees to sell you any, though you're allowed to drink it and provide it for your own family if you own the animal. I don't get that. For this reason, was thinking about buying a milking sheep. Supposed to taste like cow's milk. Goat's milk is briny.

Only thing I eat that doesn't fit into one of the above categories is bacon. Can't give it up. Two slices just about every morning with my eggs (three egg whites, and one egg yolk). My dog eats the extra two yolks.

PS I also use white flour, but only occasionally for lightly coating certain meats or vegetables before cooking them.

Well good for you,I bet your healthy then. Its hard to eat that healthy for some,I read everything I buy before I put it in my cart and all of my meat is hand butchered,so I know what it has been eating.I wanted to post this as the food company's are getting over bearing on this syrup, and some people are ill and not knowing what from, could be this.

I forgot to add pasta to the list of foods I eat. Pasta doesn't have the harmful effects that baked wheat products do. Cooked al dente (not to the point its very soft), pasta breaks down slowly in your intestines, only gradually releasing the starches which gradually are converted into glucose. This way, there is no sudden dump of glucose in your blood stream, and consequently there is no sudden release of large amounts of insulin. These large and sudden releases of insulin cause multiple health issues, not to mention putting on fat. Pasta and noodles don't cause this, so I eat them from time to time. No baked flour products, though.

On another food product note .....

OCTOBER OF 2001, A WOMAN had stomach spasms and she WAS as having a hard time getting around.
Walking was a major chore. It took everything she had just to get out of bed; she was in so much pain.

By March 2002, she had undergone several tissue and muscle biopsies and was on 24 various prescription medications.. The doctors could not determine what was wrong with her. She was in so much pain, and so sick she just knew she was dying.
She put her house, bank accounts, life insurance, etc., in her oldest daughter's name, and made sure that her younger children were to be taken care of.

She also wanted her last hooray, so she planned a trip to Florida (basically in a wheelchair) for March 22nd.

On March 19 I called her to ask how her most recent tests went, and she said they didn't find anything on the test, but they believe she had MS. I recalled an article a friend of mine e-mailed to me and I asked my sister if she drank diet soda?

She told me that she did. As a matter of fact, she was getting ready to crack one open that moment.

I told her not to open it, and to stop drinking the diet soda! I e-mailed her article my friend, a lawyer, had sent.

My sister called me within 32 hours after our phone conversation and told me she had stopped drinking the diet soda AND she could walk!
The muscle spasms went away. She said she didn't feel 100% but, she sure felt a lot better.
She told me she was going to her doctor with this article and would call me when she got home.

Well, she called me, and said her doctor was amazed! He is going to call all of his MS patients to find out if they consumed artificial sweeteners of any kind.

In a nutshell, she was being poisoned by the Aspartame in the diet soda...and literally dying a slow and miserable death.

When she got to Florida March 22, all she had to take was one pill, and that was a pill for the Aspartame poisoning! She is well on her way to a complete recovery. And she is walking! No wheelchair! This article saved her life.

If it says 'SUGAR FREE' on the label; DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT IT! I have spent several days lecturing at the WORLD ENVIRONMENTAL CONFERENCE on 'ASPARTAME,' marketed as 'Nutra Sweet,'
'Equal,' and 'Spoonful.'
In the keynote address by the EPA, it was announced that in the United States in 2001 there is an epidemic of multiple sclerosis and systemic lupus. It was difficult to determine exactly what toxin was causing this to be rampant. I stood up and said that I was there to lecture on exactly that subject.

I will explain why Aspartame is so dangerous: When the temperature of this sweetener exceeds 86 degrees F, the wood alcohol in ASPARTAME converts to formaldehyde and then to formic acid, which in turn causes metabolic acidosis. Formic acid is the poison found in the sting of fire ants.
The methanol toxicity mimics, among other conditions, multiple sclerosis and systemic lupus....
Many people were being diagnosed in error.
Although multiple sclerosis is not a death sentence, Methanol toxicity is!

Systemic lupus has become almost as rampant as multiple sclerosis, especially with Diet Coke and Diet Pepsi drinkers.
The victim usually does not know that the Aspartame is the culprit. He or she continues its use; irritating the lupus to such a degree that it may become a life-threatening condition.

We have seen patients with systemic lupus become asymptotic, once taken off diet sodas.
In cases of those diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, most of the symptoms disappear. We've seen many cases where vision loss returned and hearing loss improved markedly.

This also applies to cases of tinnitus and fibromyalgia.
During a lecture, I said, 'If you are using ASPARTAME (Nutra Sweet, Equal, Spoonful, etc) and you suffer from fibromyalgia symptoms, spasms, shooting, pains, numbness in your legs, Cramps, Vertigo, Dizziness, Headaches, Tinnitus, Joint pain, Unexplainable depression, anxiety attacks, slurred speech, blurred vision, or memory loss you probably have ASPARTAME poisoning!'
People were jumping up during the lecture saying, 'I have some of these symptoms. Is it reversible?'

Yes! Yes! Yes!
STOP drinking diet sodas and be alert for Aspartame on food labels! Many products are fortified with it!

This is a serious problem.
Dr. Espart (one of my speakers) remarked that so many people seem to be symptomatic for MS and during his recent visit to a hospice; a nurse stated that six of her friends, who were heavy Diet Coke addicts, had all been diagnosed with MS.... This is beyond coincidence!

Diet soda is NOT a diet product! It is a chemically altered, multiple SODIUM (salt) and ASPARTAME containing product that actually makes you crave carbohydrates. It is far more likely to make you GAIN weight!
These products also contain formaldehyde, which stores in the fat cells, particularly in the hips and thighs. Formaldehyde is an absolute toxin and is used primarily to preserve 'tissue specimens.'
Many products we use every day contain this chemical but we SHOULD NOT store it IN our body!
Dr. H. J. Roberts stated in his lectures that once free of the 'diet products' and with no significant increase in exercise; his patients lost an average of 19 pounds over a trial period.

Aspartame is especially dangerous for diabetics.
We found that some physicians, who believed that they had a patient with retinopathy, in fact, had symptoms caused by Aspartame. The Aspartame drives the blood sugar out of control.

Thus diabetics may suffer acute memory loss due to the fact that aspartic acid and phenylalanine are NEUROTOXIC when taken without the other amino acids necessary for a good balance.

Treating diabetes is all about BALANCE. Especially with diabetics, the Aspartame passes the blood/brain barrier and it then deteriorates the neurons of the brain; causing various levels of brain damage, Seizures, Depression, Manic depression, Panic attacks, Uncontrollable anger and rage.

Consumption of Aspartame causes these same symptoms in non-diabetics as well.
Documentation and observation also reveal that thousands of children diagnosed with ADD and ADHD have had complete turnarounds in their behavior when these chemicals have been removed from their diet.
So called 'behavior modification prescription drugs' (Ritalin and others) are no longer needed. Truth be told, they were never NEEDED in the first place!
Most of these children were being 'poisoned' on a daily basis with the very foods that were 'better for them than sugar.'

It is also suspected that the Aspartame in thousands of pallets of Diet Coke and Diet Pepsi consumed by men and women fighting in the Gulf War, may be partially to blame for the well-known Gulf War Syndrome.

Dr. Roberts warns that it can cause birth defects, i.e. mental retardation, if taken at the time of conception and during early pregnancy.
Children are especially at risk for neurological disorders and should NEVER be given artificial sweeteners.
There are many different case histories to relate of children suffering grand mal seizures and other neurological disturbances talking about a plague of neurological diseases directly caused by the use of this deadly poison.'

Herein lies the problem: There were Congressional Hearings when Aspartame was included in 100 different products and strong objection was made concerning its use. Since this initial hearing, there have been two subsequent hearings, and still nothing has been done. The drug and chemical lobbies have very deep pockets.

Sadly, MONSANTO'S patent on Aspartame has EXPIRED! There are now over 5,000 products on the market that contain this deadly chemical and there will be thousands more introduced. Everybody wants a 'piece of the Aspartame pie.'
I assure you that MONSANTO, the creator of Aspartame, knows how deadly it is.

And isn't it ironic that MONSANTO funds, among others, the American Diabetes Association, the American Dietetic Association and the Conference of the American College of Physicians?

This has been recently exposed in the New York Times.

These [organizations] cannot criticize any additives or convey their link to MONSANTO because they take money from the food industry and are required to endorse their products.

Senator Howard Metzenbaum wrote and presented a bill that would require label warnings on products containing Aspartame, especially regarding pregnant women, children and infants.
The bill would also institute independent studies on the known dangers and the problems existing in the general population regarding seizures, changes in brain chemistry, neurological changes and behavioral symptoms.

The bill was killed.

It is known that the powerful drug and chemical lobbies are responsible for this, letting loose the hounds of disease and death on an unsuspecting and uninformed public.... Well, you're informed now!
YOU HAVE A R IGHT TO KNOW!

Thank you for your time and your knowledge. One way to get this information out is to let the people know.I am going to make a copy of this and send it to my Gov. Dave Heineman and to my Doctor. He is the one that told me about Hfcs.Am glad to hear your sister made a full recovery.

well, lets say "accused of", not "associated with". I don't believe any of the allegations of adverse health related to HFCS are founded.

this ranks right up there with colloidal silver, Laetrile, and preservatives in vaccines.

I gave up diet sodas except for the occasional rum and cokezero and I can tell a big difference. I look for the HFCs in all the packaged food I buy.

I suppose somebody next will want us to stop eating meat too nebrcowgirl. Wht do you think about that? I can recall when there was a lot of press about how bad red meat is for us too.

I don't drink sodas and very little sweetened products so am little worried about corn syrup. I do use my share of catchup and BBQ sauce though. But then, I also eat a lot of red meat. Ya gotta die sometime. I'd just as soon die with my face in a plate of BBQ'd pork ribs.

I think the key here is all natural products, no preservatives. I mean my grand parents lived long (84 & 85, 88 & 86) eating pork, beef, game, sweet stuff (moderation) and plenty of vegatables too but they were mostly fresh, no synthetic junk, raised it them selves mostly and of course they worked dusk to dawn too and enjoyed life. Something a lot folks around us don't do any more. They died from making the most out of life.

Nothing wrong with red meat. Anything a caveman ate is probably pretty good for you since we evolved over millions of years to eat that diet. I suspect cavemen never ate high fructose corn syrup or NutraSweet, though. As for BBQ sauce or catchup, you're probably better off, health-wise, getting it from a health food store or making it yourself.

My freezer is full of wild game (elk, deer, quail,)and corn fed Nebraska beef.I raise my own beef.Am not telling you to stop eating what you like.I am just saying that my Doctor said that hfcs can be contribute to other causes of illness, and too much of it can make one sick.As Bootfishing said in his first post"you have the right to know",the food companies are not going to tell you.You may be the healthiest person on earth, and synthetic junk may never bother you,but if a friend of yours get sick, wouldn't you like to have a suggestion to run buy them?We learn from Knowledge, you can take it with a grain of salt.I too am like The_Real_Hawkeye I try to only eat natural foods.

I see your Occupation: is education, education is the process by which society deliberately transmits its accumulated knowledge, values, and skills from one generation to another.
If we have knowledge why cant we education the people?

education is the process by which society deliberately picks and chooses which bits of it's accumulated knowledge, values and skills it transmits from one generation to another.

We all define terms on our own terms. smile

Having opinions is not always the same as having knowledge, and not all the people feel they need to be educated by us.

I think we would be better served if we just cut out most of the sweet stuff we eat, regardless of which sweetener we are using.

Hawkeye,I was going to call you a liar about it being illegal, guess its just a Florida thing. If you go to this website you will find a list of a bunch of dairys, a lot selling goat milk, but quite a few selling cows milk. You will notice that 95% say "For pet use only, per Florida law". Take that for what its worth. http://www.realmilk.com/where1.html

Around here there is a big market for raw milk. There is a vet down the road that sells eggs and raw milk, not sure what dairy he is getting it from, but has a big billboard stating as such. My uncle had been selling, had a large sign on a major US highway advertising as such, would still be selling except he sold the cows last week and moved to Oregon to start another dairy out there. Do some googling for 'raw milk', you'll get lots of hits, some groups, and some links to people selling.

I thank you for this web site,a friend of mine her kids are allergic to cows milk and was buying goats milk but lost supplier due to old age.She just called me and we were discussing how she was going to find another, your knowledge has come at the right moment.I thank you.

It's too bad that sheep's milk is so unknown in the United States. It's the perfect family sized milking animal, and it's milk is said to taste just like cow's milk. I hate the taste of goat's milk.
