Just getting into handloading and was wondering if any folks out there have any suggestions for handloading the 280 rem.

My rifle really likes the premium factory Nosler accubonds/ballistic tips (in the 140 grain range)and I will be experimenting with the new 140 grain Berger VLD offerings too. So any handloading information on loads with nosler accubonds/ballsitic tips, and berger bullets would be great.

Thanks in advance for any help.

IMR 4831 56.5 grains, 140 grain BT bullet seated to .005 off the lands. CCI BR Primers.
Close to a max load in my rifles, start well below and work up.

56-57 gr of IMR-4831 and a 140 gr bullet (normally Nosler BT) is a go to .280 load for me as well.

Worked two loads up last year for my brothers Remington M700, stainless synthetic, 22" barrel, rifle about 10-12 years old.

1.) R-P case, FED 210 primer, CT (Nosler) 140 grain Ballistic Silvertip, 57.0 grains (Nosler #5 MAX load) Alliant Reloder 19. COL 3.262", 3/4" group @ 100 yards, 2751 FPS (average) with Beta Master Chrony at 10', temp @85 F.

2.) R-P case, REM 9 1/2 primer, CT (Nosler) 140 grain Ballistic Silvertip, 54.0 grains (Hodgdon Data Center on-line MAX load) Hodgdon Hybrid 100V. COL 3.262", 1/2" group @ 100 yards, 2887 FPS (average) with Beta Master Chrony at 10', temp @81F.

3.) For comparison we shot the Winchester Supreme 140 grain Ballistic Silvertip factory load @85 F as well. Average FPS was 2926 fps (Beta Master Chrony at 10'), accuracy was 1-3/8" group at 100 yards.

I've also used 57 gr of Reloader 19 with Ballistic Tips. Was getting 2875 in a 22" Ruger 77. 2850 with RL 22. Factory Winchester Ballistic Silvertips averaged 2940 in my gun. I developed those first two loads before I had a chronograph and thought I was getting closer to 3000. Pretty accurate though.

59.5 grains of RL-22 with 140 NBT's, Hornady 140 SST's, 140 Hronady IB or 140 NPT's; all do about 2950-2975 fps.

Max loading so start at 56-57 grains & work up.

With 120 NBT's or Barnes TSX, 50-52 grains of RL-15 for about 3050 - 3100 fps.

Thanks guys for the 280 load info. Keep them coming if there are any more suggestions.

Anyone have any 280 Rem loads using the Berger 140 VLD hunting bullets. Everything I saw up top was for Nosler products so far.

One thing is for sure...........this reloading can be addicting!

It certainly is addicting, I have a terrible habit of continual tweaking which more often than not results in nothing better than the first well thought out load.
For instance, I've tried dang near every single slow powder in my .264 and several different bullets and none shoot much better than my first load, same thing with my .358 Norma. Probably spent $500 that I didn't need to.

56.0gr of IMR4831 with 145gr Speer-2974fps-shoots well for me and has taken several deer.
Other loads that were acceptable:
55.0gr IMR4831 140gr NBT-2920fps
56.0gr RL22 150gr Sierra-2770fps
58.5gr IMR7828ssc 150gr Swift Scirocco-2884fps
55.0gr IMR4350 139gr Hornady-2950fps
60.0gr Magpro 150gr Swift A-Frame-2868fps

RL-19 and H-4831 were much lower in velocity, and groups were larger.
The IMR4350 load did not stay consistent in cold weather.

The only current 140 gr. loads I use in mine are with WW cases and the Barnes TSX. About 57 grs. of Ramshot Hunter runs over 3000 fps. 3.33 COL.
With the 154 gr. Hornady IB's, either 52 grs. of H4350 or 57 grs. of H4831 shoot well at 2807 and 2874 respectively. Rem cases.
160 gr. Swift-A-Frames did well with 52 grs. of H4350 also. Just over 2800 fps. Rem cases also. E
