I have one that likes the Federal 170 gr blue box stuff, although I haven't really tried very many brands. It will consistently put 5 shots inside of 2" at 100 yards with a 4x scope. I can't really ask much more than that.

Brother has the glenfield 30A since he was 13 or 14 and now he is 38. Doesnt get used a whole lot anymore, but he always shot regular ol federal 150 grain hi shok out of the old red boxes. killed what he aimed at.

I had one but gave it to my daughter. It actually felt much better than a 336, it seemed to be slimmer and trimmer and pointed like a good shotgun. It felt much better to me than my other Marlin lever actions. The beech (or birch) stock was not a problem with me. I wish I had not given it away.

I have one, and it's my favorite boat gun. I used it a few weeks ago to take this " free range pork" back home in the swamps. I use 31 grains of VV 530 with a 150 winchester PP,Rem 9 1/2 primer and any case I have have on hand. Shoots 5 shots into 1.5 MOA all day. No checkering on mine.

Forgot how much I love the lever action! I'll agree with those that like the 30A over the 336.
That looks like some good eating!!

Thanks, he was good eating even if he was a boar. The only thing I didn't like about the 30A is the real cheap rear sight. I replaced it with a folding one for 10.00 If it goes to raining I can remove the scope and use the irons to continue the hunt.

I've had a mid-70s vintage Model 30A for a very long time. It's put a lot of deer down with nary a problem. I would not ever get rid of mine. It's a tough piece of hardware. I like H4895 and Speer 150gr jacketed flat nose.

I have 2. The 1976 version seems to be more accurate with 150 gr bullets, whereas the 1983 version likes the 170 gr bullets. Here are pics of both guns: The top is the 1976, the bottom is the 1983: I restocked the 1983 version with a stock off the 336A, here is how it looks now:

I got one a few years back. It has the checkering with the deer heads and oak leaves pressed in. It sports the Glenfield 4x scope as well. Haven't shot it a great deal, but will not sell it as it was a great value. Paid $150 at a gun show! Anyone know how to tell what year it was mfg.? Serial #2481000XX.

Everything you now do is something you have chosen to do. Some people don't want to believe that. But if you're over age twenty-one, your life is what you're making of it. To change your life, you need to change your priorities.

I own one. Killed a Blacktail deer with it in 2007 at 100 yards with a lung shot. Used 30-30 150 grain Remington core lokt. A friend used it to kill a deer fifty yards away with a neck shot. Same ammo.
I have nothing bad to say about the little gun. Have it sighted with a 1X5 shotgun scope. I have a Westernfield 30-30 with a darker stock that I like a little better, both in looks and trigger pull. How much was the seller asking for it?
