Beautifyl Rifle Johnny. Never woulda thought of a humble .35 looking that nice. Check out that Ad. Elmer Keith better be glad he wasn't married to my wife. Be the time she got through waxing those eye brows, he'd have wanted to eat one of his .44 specials. Guess that is the first time I saw a photo of the legend. . .

If I had my choice of ONE deer rifle for the northeast it would be a 336 in .35; especially on of those models with the shorter magazine. Put a 1-3 Weaver on it and you're good to go. An old friend of mine from PA called his the "Hammer" and his many kills were mostly bang-flops or they took a few weak steps. Nothing fancy; just effective. Good for bar and meese too. Not bad on recoil and ammo cheap and usually available. What's not to like.

Over on Marlin Owners web site you say that the 30-30 is best and that the 35 is worthless. One never knows what to believe!

Hey man Nice to see ya here, hows it going?
"worthless"? If I would've said that, I would've been gone mucho sooner.
I dogged the 35 and promoted the 30-30. I pretty much still agree one caliber is not better than another.
I also said wait till I get my hands on a 35 LTD and hell would break loose...And it did.
When one takes off the rose colored glasses in the world of spin...30-30 or 35, your choice. I've killed more deer and hogs with both than most folks who walk the planet. They both work well. You can only believe what you try yourself.

Thanks,
I have enough walnut and this is my new "go-to".
I actually just sold my old 1970 model marlin 35rem and trying to sell a 1976 marlin 30-30. Probably going to dump my 94CP on a nephew. Gave my son my LTS again for good.
Basically, I'm cleaning house now.

Johnny, I assume that you load for your .30-30, and the .35. Thinking real hard about hunting with a lever this year. Have a 30TK in .30WCF and a 1936 model Marlin in .32 Spl. More than likely the .30 will get the nod.
In your experience with the .30 WCF, what weight bullet performs best on whitetails?

Johnny, . Thinking real hard about hunting with a lever this year. Have a 30TK in .30WCF and a 1936 model Marlin in .32 Spl. Not a lot of those 1936 32 special thumpers around . The only factory load mine really does not like at all is the L-evolution loads .

My Grandfather gave it to my Dad when he and Mom got married. I don't think Dad has ever hunted deer, and so to my knowledge it hasn't been blooded in the last 40 years or so.
Maybe I should hunt with the old Marlin.

.
I cannot see much difference on whitetails with the 150 or 170 grain Core-lokts or Silvertips. I shoot 150 gr. Winchester Silvertips because I have couple a thousand that I got from an estate sale years ago.
Today I would buy the Speer in either weight with complete confidence. The 30-30 does not need premium bullets at it's velocities.

My Grandfather gave it to my Dad when he and Mom got married. I bet you Grandfather would like that . or You could use both over the course of the season as well .

It's looking like a Lever kind of year. Kinda hard to put down the bolt guns, but it would be a nice change up.
