Wow! That Savage 99 is exactly what I was after when I bought my 308MX. If I saw one for sale today in that condition, caliber, and model I would certainly be all over it but...[Back to real life] When I saw my first 308MX I couldn't get my wallet out quick enough. I have hunted it for two seasons now and it is the only center fire rifle I currently use anywhere other than the range. I've got plenty of safe sitters and there is a lot of pleasure in owning them but when I'm actually putting the boots on the ground the Marlin is the rifle that gets put in the truck.

It is among the most accurate new rifles I have ever owned which I really didn't expect. Factory ammunition is fine with me as I don't expect to improve on it in any significant way (I reload for everything else) and it's no big deal to lay in a life time supply of the factory stuff. Maybe not a bad idea anyway considering the upcoming regime change.

Glad I bought one and I've carried it a lot of miles over the last two years.

Been a long, busy day but for some reason I had a a wild hair to shoot my 308MX at 300 yards. Drove my truck out in snow that was leaving drag marks and almost got stuck. So I walked the box out bit and backed out my same tracks to where I thought 300 should be. Had a hard time ranging the box so I just called it good. Took three shots off the hood and walked out to the box and ranged my truck. Turns out i was only 271 yards but still not a bad group. There was a bit of a breeze.

Someone fill me in. What is the difference in the Marlin lever 308 caliber and the 308 that we all knew from the bolt actions of old.

A good horse, a good saddle and some open country. A little time is good too!!!

Rimmed and a tad slower and shorter I believe. A rimmed 300 Savage.

How about the .338ME? I heard it was pretty close to 30-06 ballistics... Seems like a good compliment to my quiver... Any thoughts?
