Welcome to the Campfire. Very good looking Marlin and in one of my favorite calibers. Now we need a description (of the rifle). What model? Did you build it? If not you then who did the work?

Back in the spring I decided that I should have my first "custom" rifle. Since I am a whitetail deer hunter who prefers to hunt in the timber I thought it might as well be a Marlin lever gun since I love my Marlin 336/.35 Remington so well. I have always favored the look of a straight stock over the pistolgrip stock so I started looking for a 336T. I have also always liked something a little different than what everyone else hunts with so I began to think about calibers. The 38/55 has a history as well as being enough to be considered a "big bore." I already had JES reboring in mind when I started looking for a donor rifle for the project. I soon found a Marlin 336T on auctionarms.com that fit the bill and it had nice wood to boot. A few weeks after it arrived I was lurking around the Marlinowners site and saw a link to an auction on gunbroker.com. It was the rifle you see in the above picture that had already been re-bored by JES. I coughed up the money and now it is mine. I have not been able to shoot it much but the first load tried with 255gr Barnse original bullets produced a group of just over a half an inch at 100 yards. It is bored .375 so I can use bullets intended for the 375 Winchester. I have some loads with 250gr Beartooth cast bullets loaded but have not had the chance to try them. Since I intend to hunt with it I now have it scoped with a Leupold 2-7x in Talley base/ring combos. I sure hope a deer gets in the way of it this season! Goat

It's nice to find one already bored. Jes does great work and his barrels are all .375 which makes bullet selection easier. You could shoot factory 375 Winchester ammo in that rifle.

Jes rebored a Marlin 30TK from 30-30 to .375 win for me a while back and it shoots great. That texan is a great configuration and 38-55 or .375 win are tops as far a lever gun rounds IMHO. Weagle
