Can anyone tell me if the factory Remington 257 Roberts 117 Core-Lokt SP is round nose or spitzer? I think it is RN, but an acquaintance insists it is spitzer.
Also, anyone tried the Federal 120 gr Nosler partition load in 257 Roberts?
Thanks, Ted

Not a writer, but the rem factory load is a RN. Same with the winchester. Havent tried the Partition load, might want to check the Hornady loads (117 SST and BT).

The Rem is a roundnose, the winchester looks to have a bit longer ogive but is not a true spitzer. It is considerably faster than the Remington. I have not shot a deer with the Federal Premium ammo, but it has turned in respectable groups in both my Roberts rifles. I should add that the Remington factory ammo, though a bit underpowered, or perhaps because of it, would turn in cloverleaf groups in my Model 70.

Don't pass up the Remington 117-gr RN CoreLokt .257 Roberts ammo just because of its paper ballistics. It is like the 140-gr 6.5x55mm Swede, a surprise killer, a quintessential deer still hunting cartridge with mild recoil and noise, very accurate.
IMHO, a perfect match for a light 20-inch to 22-inch BLR or bolt action like a Model 7, A-Bolt Micro, or Kimber.
Likewise the factory Winchester, a bit more sleek and fast.
If your .257 is a full-size rifle like the Remington 700 Classic with a 24-inch barrel, you might want to take advantage of it by using the Hornady 117-gr BT, SST or Light Magnum.

Thanks, Ted Ted, the Remington 117gr CoreLokts I have are round nose. When I got my .257 Roberts I also got 2 boxes of the Federal 120 gr Nosler Partitions. New out of the box my Ruger shot the them in 1 1/4" groups. After alittle work on the trigger the groups got smaller. You might also try some of the 100 grainers.

Probably 4 deer with the Remington RN, and 2 with the old Peters RN, all out of a 24-inch barrel M-700 Classic. That rifle shoots everything well, including the 87-gr, surprising for its long throat.
120-gr Nosler Partition comes in the Federal Premium ammuntion, and is about the same speed.
Some rifles really like 100-gr loads, and not 115, 117 or 120. What kind of rifle is your .257 Rob?

Husqvarna Model 4000 Fwt, with 24" Douglas barrel. I load all my ammo, but a fellow has four boxes of factory stuff he wants to sell.

Funny how Remington can load 25/06 and 250Savage with 100gr bullets, but not the 257Roberts.

I have used both the Federal 120 gr. Partition and Hornady Custom 117 gr. SP with great results on about a half dozen deer over the years. Good accuracy as well.

. ...and Winchester used to load a 100gr SilverTip (and still does in the 250Savage)!

If you want 100 grainers in the Bob, you have to go Nosler Custom for factory stuff. Pretty rediculous!

The factory 120 gr partitions shot groups just over an inch out of my mauser sporter. I have only shot one deer with it and it wasn't much of a test. 90lb doe punched through the shoulders at about 40 yds and DRT.

My PF 70 loves the remington core-lokt's. I try feeding it the +P stuff and groups open a lot. Kind of ticks me off but the Rem kills deer just fine. I'm not going hungry.
