My youngest son is now the tallest person in the house and we have a Crickett .22 we bought for my oldest (before he was born in 1990).

Thinking about putting a base, rings and scope on it; mebbe put a slight extention on the stock and carrying it on the ceiling or tucked between the seats of the truck for a vermin-killing piece.

Has anyone recycled one of these for similar purposes, or even ultra customized?

Might get it reamed to a .22 Magnum for a bit more energy.

I've never owned one but Great American Gunstocks at one time had some custom Cricket wood stocks in thier bargin section. They had nice figure and decent layout with oval cheek pieces, open grips and short European style forends.

I thought they would have made some very unique rifles. I was very tempted to do one but took on a mini Mauser project instead.

You won't need a new stock. Trust me. Mount a decent scope with LONG eye relief, and a generous "eye box", and you're set. Feed it CCI Subsonic LR HPs, and stuff will HATE you.

Crickett makes an Adult Model rifle w/Longer LOP and Walnut Stock. IIRC, it's the Model 300 and it's overall length is only 2.5" longer than the kid's rifles. You might be able to buy just the stock. It appears they also sell an adult replacement stock in hot pink if that's your cup of tea. My daughter sure loves her hot pink Crickett.

I think the best way to recycle it would be to give it to a family with a young kid getting into the shooting sports.

I'd put the $ to modify it into a better quality adult sized rifle.

That's a good idea 458, but I have reservations about the cocking bolt being used by any littl'un not under my direct supervision.

Know what I mean? Any family I know savvy enough to be safe with it already has guns for their youngsters.

OT, but...Saturday morning my cousin from Chattanooga met me and my brother (in from Colo.)at our 40 acres in the sticks. The purpose was to get my cousin a good fox squirrel.

Cuz took an old Winchester 37 16 ga., I took my kills everything Xtrema2 (with light 6 shot...no turkey mags) and finally convinced my brother to take Dad's old pre-Model 60 Marlin autoloader on which I'd put a 4x Tasco and zeroed with CCI SS.

He'd flown in with wife and kids for a wedding, and, in our family tradition, that meant he needed to go hunting before the services! Resistance was futile.

I'd zeroed the rifle for 40 yards and when he got a shot at a big fox 50 yards out and high in a hickory it was a pure bang flop. I barely heard the shot 200 yards away. He shot it through the chest for taxidermy purposes but the angle caused it to exit behind the ear.

Cuz wound up with three bull fox squirrels in three different color schemes. Mine was a big white faced rascal...

Gotta take the boys out this evening, found a ton of grays that need frying.

I think you need to take the Crickett and use it for yourself, to see how it does.

Give the kids the Marlin.
