I'm about to buy a new scope for my .223 rem. The scope i'm gonna get is a Weaver 4-16. I'm gonna get one with the long range aiming dots. The predicament i'm in is Weaver has a reticle "specifically" for the .223 and they also have a "regular" reticle. Which should I get?
I leaning towards the "regular" ballistic reticle cause that away i could use the scope on a different rifle if i needed too.
what do you guys think?
Do you like the Ballistic Dot reticles?
Thanks
Brett (Mac)

You should be able to "tune" in the standard reticle and use it with different calibers if need be.

I used to like the Weaver catalogs, but after '07 they didn't publish the subtensions of their reticles anymore--a mistake, IMO. No doubt the 223 Ballistic-X has different subtensions than the other Ballistic-X reticle. Would be nice to know their subtensions (including the dot sizes and plex post tip measurement).

sscoyote:
I completely agree, it's rather confusing on their website. They don't go into any detail about the different reticles.

No matter which one you buy, you are going to have to shoot your loads at all ranges to find out exactly what range each hash is dead on.

No--i only have 1 now, and i've never had any problems with any i've owned.
The reticle i described above is a custom installation, no doubt very different than the ballistic reticles they use.
