Tossed the 6.5X284 around a while. Still thinking it over. Don't need any right now. Just look towards income tax checks and a new project. I have a LH 700 Short Action that is not performing as I'd hoped in .308. Was orginally thinking a 6.5x284. Still am somewhat.

But I wanted to know if a 6.5X55 Swede can be made to fit in a short action? I know it's pretty much a "tweener" so wanted addtional input on what a "medium" action is?

Please God, give me some good tags this year....

I've never heard of the 6.5x55 in a short action. How about the 260 Remington? I might be wrong but it's my understanding it's pretty much a short action 6.5x55 that a lot of shooters like because it's a short action.

I might be mistaken but I believe you can have your chamber throated for a shorter COAL and load it for a short action. I believe the reason for the long action is the extended seating depth necessary of the typical chamber (designed for LONG 160gr bullets and such).

Go 260, I don't believe the magazine will allow you to seat the bullets out far enough for the 6.5X55.

It's been done, the only rationale reason over a 260 in a SA IMHO is brass quality, Lapua 6.5x55. I would not do it. 55's go with LA like bread and butter.

If you want Lapua brass in a SA w/o reforming, there is the 6.5x47 Lapua FWIW.

I make 260 out of Lapua 308 or 243 Lapua.

Having had the 6.5L, do you see any difference in it and the 260 accuracy when using Lapua for your 260?

I hear some get the donut with 243 brass, and I don't want to turn necks. Doesn't going up/down shorten/lengthen brass a hair? I know the 260 lacks the neck length like a 47 or Creed, and the 6 Rem always had a good bit more seemingly helping accuracy by edging out the 243, fractionally.

Maybe if Lapua had not tried cornering the market with the 47 they'd mfg. 260, but they refuse to mfg. it. Ashame. All equal, it's nice to get what you want out the box, ready to use w/o any work, and stamped right. One reason I have been a fan of the 6BR. Not to mention, they flat shoot!

Butch, you using a 6x47 now for this deer season? Seems you tried the 6.5 version first.
