The Cabela's gun room in the Glendale store has an A-Square .577 T-Rex for sale for $5,000, or slightly higher (I can't remember the exact price). Price included approximately six factory-loaded rounds which, by themselves, I reckon must be pretty expensive. I was toying with buying the rifle strictly as an investment/curiosity. Anybody got any opinion, one way or the other? Good investment, or foolish waste of $$?

It would make for a good conversation piece and that`s it. Whether a good investment or not, who could know!

There was an online video that was made and out about a year
or two ago about the 577 T-Rex, where people were brought to an inside or underground range or lab and asked to fire this thing standing up. I have no idea how to find that video.

All but one, were either slammed backwards against the wall and/or literally got knocked down flat on their butts.

Watching that video was hilarious.

Whether one has the bucks to burn or not, there are many other better things one can buy than a 577 T-Rex.

Find a 700 Nitro for an even better conversation piece.

I agree that a 700 Nitro would be highly desirable. However, a 700 Nitro would cost about 35 times (literally) the price of the T-Rex. I'm just trying to figure out, based on price alone, whether the Rex is likely to be a good investment in the long run.

It would be only a good investment if you can find someone to buy it later on. cabelas probably bought it for 3 grand and the guy who had it made probably spent 15 on it.

I would not put my money on that gun as an investment. A-square was far from a quality gun builder, and add to that a round that is very hard to find components for. That is a very niche round and most folks that want to play with the super power rounds will just have AHR build them up a rifle in 600 overkill. Even more power, brass is available, and it's a real gunsmith building a quality rifle.

If I was going to invest in a rifle, it would be built by a shop that has had long name recognition, H&H, Rigby, Jeffrey, etc. Those guns will appreciate over time, so long as you don't pay too much to get into one.

a big bore to invest in might be a 375H&H pre 64 NIB with tags. especially if you could get it for $1,000

I priced 577 T-Rex ammo once. The price for new brass, that would be sans primer, bullet or powder is $8.80 EACH. That would be $880 if you would like a hundred pieces of brass or $8,800 for a thousand cases.

There is a new video up on the accuratereloading.com forum. Saeed (the owner of the gun range, the rifle and the web site) took the recoil reducing device from the stock and had a guy shoot it. At the shot, the gun flies up, back and AWAAAAAAY!

Does it come with a gun carriage or would you need to supply your own?

I bought my .500 A2 Hannibal in .500 A2 in mint condition for **substantially** less than the $5,000 asking price. The .577 T-Rex is certainly more exotic, and I'm sure that it commands a premium significantly higher than my rifle; nevertheless I would be very cautious of the asking price.

I would also be very cautious since very few people are going to want it despite it being exotic and you could go broke feeding it. One was advertised here and on another forum a couple of months ago. One response mentioned one going for $1,600 following which the owner wanted to sell it to someone else (probably after shooting it a couple of times and going in for laser surgery for detached retinas).

Being stupid and somewhat recoil tolerant, I would probably buy one if in pristine condition and priced around $2,000.

TFF. I'm watching that link and crying. Saw the first two suckers on a short video titled something like "Why the Arabs use roadside bombs instead of rifles" but that's the first time to view the whole video.
