Well, it's not like wild game hunting but I have quite a few Corsican sheep. We need to thin them a bit before winter so I decided to take out a small ram for the freezer. Jesse wanted to shoot it, so I told him if he could make a few perfect shots with the crossbow I have here I would let him. He practiced this week with it and was able to shoot it perfect with the red dot scope.
We walked and stalked and snuck up on these sheep for about 2 hours. They are absolutely not tame and do not let you get close. We were finally able to see one young male separate from the rest and then made a perfect 31 yard shot through the top of the heart. Nothing could have been better then seeing the sheep run 4-5 steps and fall. Using the 3D targets for his practice was the trick to his understanding of shot placement.
It was nice for him to do this with an arrow, even if it was from a crossbow. He's just not capable of drawing enough weight at 7 years old. We used the slick trick, which blew through like lightening and took out the scapula on the exit side.
He was so excited and was a champ at the skinning and disassembly process. Tomorrow we bone it out and grind it up.
