...Anyone have experience with the New England Firearms "Sidekick" break action muzzle loader? Their handi-rifles and thier shotguns are built on the same foundation and perform well so maybe thier Sidekick muzzle loader is a good buy? Reports?

I've had good luck with mine.
The sidekick is on a different (shorter) chassis than the rifles and shotgun.
The NEF Huntsman is built on the same action has the shotguns. Some are on the same action as the rifles.

I paid $140 out the door for mine and it shoots as well as my Omega. It is on a separate frame so that it can be sold mail order or w/o registration. The only weaknesses are the weak retractable ramrod and the primer carriers which are easy to lose and which allow too much blowback. I replaced both items with aftermarket products and I am perfectly satisfied. Definitely check Graybeard for info on the replacement ramrod from Hubbard and the breechplug that allows the use of Blackhorn 209.
I bought mine as a cheap gun that I could cheaply replace the stock with a shorter youth stock for the kids I take hunting. NEF has put production on hold this year and is redesigning the Sidekick and Huntsman to get past the weaknesses. They are expected to be back in production next year with the improvements.

Order a replacement rod for $35 and a carrierless breach plug for $30 and it is a better gun than my Encore was. PM me if you want contact numbers.

i have one of each and there great shooter and great rifles to carrie the primer carrer is not the greatest but neather was knights .just as accrate for less money.

You got it!  I will gladly help with my experiences so far! I have a SS Sidekick and rate it now over the Encore I had. I stole mine at $75 new and another $65.

called nick today. sounds good so order two, one for the huntsman and one for sidekick don't know thro about the o-ring ,talked to him about a gasket made of gasket metreal . said should work along with using small rifle primers instead of 209 primers basspro has them along with cabealo
