I've gone to a very thin soft shell as well for windy weather. I don't use any shell unless it's pretty windy. That way, the moving air helps to dry you out faster. Ditto on the use of puffy insulation while sitting. Just as long as it, too, breaths to some degree. Another trick I like is to use whatever shell I have to wrap my legs when I sit on cold mornings. That and sit on a piece of foam to keep my butt warm. E

Dober,
I have tried silk and while it works well, I don't care for the silky feel.

Thx ED,
I've worn it for eons and really like it except for the fact that it wears out fairly easily. Of course it doesn't cost much either.
I wear it in all but the extreme cold.

Mark,
I've got to admit, I have never tried the silks. I take most of my clothing cues these days from the mountaineering side of things, and being as they've never discussed silk, I haven't checked it out.

I got the Cap 4 in yesterday and it looks good. I may try it this weekend hunting for whitetails (walking a short ditance, and sitting in a stand for 3-4 hours). It doesn't seem overly heavy for cold weather, teens to twenties, we'll see.

Silk works best for me. I prefer the way it feels to wool or any of the synthetic plastic stuff.
