I am wondering if some of you Marlin experts could possibly help me out with a rifle I have. I have talked of selling it and a couple of questions keep coming up.
It is a Marlin 336 in 35 Remington and the serial number is P28XXX. Could you determine when this rifle was manufactured? Also, were these originally drilled and tapped for scope mounts with 8-40 screws?
Many thanks in advance for the info. I appreciate it.

I'm no expert, but I have a big, thick book about Marlins. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
It says:
Marlin literature announced that 336C receivers were being drilled & tapped for scope mounts in 1956 (the same year that they went to Micro-Groove rifling in the centerfire lever actions). Your rifle was made in 1957.
Hope that helps. Screw size isn't mentioned, sorry.
