I couldn't bring myself to read the entire thread and when jumping to the end it seemed rather heavy into religion. For my part I have already got one set of parts and, basically by definition, have no concept of why anyone would be attracted to such redundancy with another more or less inditical set. In another observational statement I'm pretty dubious about how "natural" something can be when not one single homosexual walking this earth (or ever has walked this earth) would exist without people somehow managing to figure out "this" is actually designed (regardless of your believing it was designed by evolution or deity) to go "there". Face it, gender is the first big breakdown of being human. It's the one trait that remains regardless of any other factor of race, creed, color, etc. Heck, most anything on the planet labeled as "higher", plant OR animal, is subdivided as male or female. None of that probably answers anything and in fact was probably discussed earlier but, well, that's about all I have to say on the issue.
If there's one thing I've become certain of it's that there's too much certainty in the world.

There never has been that balance, not even close, especially when pagans were in charge.
Well there certainly hasn't been in our life time. Maybe there never has been but my anicent story is at least as valid as your ancient story of the "Great Fall". Mythology is mythology. Since you brought up the ancient Greeks, women were basically livestock that raised your kids....and livestock you screwed, along with everything else you wanted. And that's what's gonna get us away from evil? Well it is true that men had little if any respect for women but women had little respect for men either. In their system, men and women were just livestock to each other which proves my point that homosexuality is natural. Pagans killed each other for land and property....and when one won it was because their Gods were superior. Pagans rarely fought over religion per se. Obviously one Pagan group might consider their Gods superior than another group but rarely fought over Gods. In fact, it was quite common for different Pagan groups to worship very similar Gods. Conan the Barbarian is the only thing I have as a source, but I imagine it will suffice...... Good grief, if that's your source we are in deep do-do!!!!

How does latent homosexuality figure into this discussion?

Glad you feel your religion is mythology. I personally don't feel mine is Since you brought up the ancient Greeks, women were basically livestock that raised your kids....and livestock you screwed, along with everything else you wanted. And that's what's gonna get us away from evil? Well it is true that men had little if any respect for women but women had little respect for men either. In their system, men and women were just livestock to each other which proves my point that homosexuality is natural. Hmmm. Lack of respect for all. Sounds like salvation this wonderful paganism you speak of. People are livestock....have at it! Re-read what I typed. It still doesn't matter when I was under the impression pagans just want to be left alone. Conan the Barbarian is the only thing I have as a source, but I imagine it will suffice...... Good grief, if that's your source we are in deep do-do!!!! So it suffices?

So let me make sure I understand your theory. You believe the deep inside most of us are attracted to guys and wouldn't mind experimentation with same sex relationships if it weren't for the stigma from society and and homophobia? To deny this is to deny our own sexuality? Basically, yes that's what I'm saying. It has been my observation that men prefer bonding with other men than their significant other (wife, girl friend, mistress) and even their children especially if that child is a girl. I remember my Mother asking me when I was about 17 or 18 that I probably had to have sons just like every other male. I said no I don't care what the sex is. A healthy child was far more important than it's sex. Most men prefer sons to daughters as it helps to solidify their sexuality of manhood. I'm not saying there aren't fathers that enjoy daughters but there are fewer of them than the other. To me, a daughter is blessing bestowed on a man. Let me ask you guys that are married a couple of questions: How much quality time in a week do you spend with your wife? Who would you rather spend your limited quality time with your wife or your best male friends? For far too many men, they would rather spend their limited quality time with their male friends.

I admit my Pagan stories are mythology and most Pagans do like wise. Only Christians believe their ancient stories are the absolute truth and the "Word of Their God."

That's basically what I've been trying to say, most males are latent homosexuals. In a more open culture, bi-sexuality would be the norm rather than the homophobic culture we have. It's rather interesting that a large percentage of women are probably bi-sexual because few people have a problem with female bi-sexuality. People probably have less trouble with female bi-sexuality because everybody knows that women are pure evil and are going to Hell anyway.

The reason men find the idea of two hot women making out doubly interesting on a primal level is that it's TWO hot women getting sexy instead of just one. Two is usually twice as good as one in just about anything. Would you like two slices of apple pie or just one? Would you like two sugar cubes in your coffee or just one? Would you like two dollars or just one?

I admit my Pagan stories are mythology and most Pagans do like wise. Only Christians believe their ancient stories are the absolute truth and the "Word of Their God." Then history to date is based in mythology as well, even paganism and athiesm, from any Western perspective. Some stories may be legend, but you can't deny that every ancient story is farce either. There are not just writings, but actual artifacts in some cases, regardless of pagan or Christian. I can't help it Jesus was crucified by a ruling class of pagans, nor that Attila the pagan fought against Rome when all they wanted was to be left alone (grins) or maybe both were just myths too. I honestly do not know. I'll at least give credit to the ancient societies as existing.....but you won't Christianity? I do know that homosexuals haven't gotten us here to argue those points.

Would you like two dollars or just one? Been watching porn again, eh? No problem I have a small library. It's rare to find two hot women going at it except maybe the drunks in a bar. I know a fair number of bi-sexual and lesbian women and while they are nice Ladies and some are quite handsome, hot would be the last thing I would call them but each to their own. But it is interesting that you can look the other way with homosexual women especially if they are hot but men is another matter. It goes back to what I said before especially with Christians, homosexuality is acceptable because most women are doomed to Hell anyway so we men might as well as enjoy it.

It's been many years since I studied psychology, but I don't believe there's ever been a credible body of research that's supported the various Freudian concepts. The main believers have been those in the profession who have spent several years and thousands of dollars on their own analyses. Cognitive dissonance, anyone? Then there are the English teachers who dig the symbolism and sexual stuff. When I was in college I could always get an A in English Lit. by applying some half-azzed Freudian analysis to a literary piece. Worked every time. More recently those on the left have picked up on homophobia. Meets a whole bunch of their political and emotional needs to lay that "diagnosis" on those who disagree with their views on homosexuality. Paul

From the Wikipedia link, I don't see where Freudian concepts had part of this study but draw your own conclusions. IMO Freud's views were just bad science.
A theory that homophobia is a result of latent homosexuality was put forth in the late 20th century. A 1996 study conducted at the University of Georgia by Henry Adams, Lester Wright Jr., and Bethany Lohr[1] indicates that a number of "homophobic" males exhibit latent homosexuality. The research was done on 64 heterosexual men, 35 of whom exhibited "homophobic" traits and 29 who did not. Three tests were conducted using penile plethysmography. While there was no difference in response when the men were exposed to heterosexual and lesbian pornography, there was a major difference in response when the men were exposed to male homosexual pornography.
The researchers reported that 24% of the non-"homophobic" men showed some degree of tumescence in response to the male homosexual video, compared to 54% of the subjects who scored high on the "homophobia scale". In addition, 66% of the nonhomophobic group showed no significant increases in tumescence after this video, but only 20% of the "homophobic" men failed to display any arousal. Additionally, when the participants rated their degree of sexual arousal later, the "homophobic" men significantly underestimated their degree of arousal by the male homosexual video.
Still, researchers disagree about whether the "homophobic" males were stimulated by genuine latent homosexuality or negative emotions such as anxiety.
