We always have a problem with beavers in the fall. There's a small creek they love to live in. We have to trap them out and bust the dams every year. Well today I took my 9yr old son to show him how to speed things along. We broke a couple of dams and at dusk waited for them to come out. (We sat on the bank with a marlin 357 in hand). I missed the first one (shot over his head) but killed the next two. They both sank to the bottom so we were unable to get them. The biggest was close to 40lbs. There are still a couple that we didn't get but if the rifle doesn't get them the steel traps will. It was a fun time with my son and it rids us of a pest that is detrimental to our property.

When doing previous WDC work I always had good luck with a 12 gauge and 00 buck. If you miss with an hp, the bullet may skip a long ways to parts unknown, that's why I go with a shotgun.

In bear country, and not advocating it. I heard used peanut oil on lodge and dam will have the bears taking care of the beavers.

Sounds like it would work but I've not seen any bears around these parts.

My friend in North Carolina used dynamite. They float right up.

Went back today with my youngest son. We eliminated another one. This should slow down the rebuilding of the dams and dry out some fields.

Sounds like you are having fun. If you just want rid of them, I have found that snaring them in their paths on land to be quite easy and effective. You also get the pelt.
