I've poured over the archives for an hour or so and have came up empty handed. I picked up a box of these in a trade and was going to give them a try in my 243 this fall on a few bucks and a bruin. What I'm not finding is much (any, actually) load data. Do these bullets work well with other cup/core bullet data? I found a guy with the swift manual, but the 6mm 90grn'r isn't even listed. I seen the factory loaded combo was claiming 3120, so I figured I'd just start with some RL-15 and work up until I either got in that ballpark, speedwise, or ran into pressure. Has anyone tried this bullet in their 243? Thanks.

I also picked up a pound of R-17 today, I'll give that a whirl with them as well.

You can call Swift, they will email it to you. Be aware as the guy likes to talk ALOT. I'd just use data cocurrent with other 90gr bullets and maybe back off on the charge. Supposedly the Scirocco's like to be started .050" off the lands.

Why is it called a double u, should'nt it be called a double v?

Nosler's latest manual has lots of data for the 85/90gr weights, which they lump together. That RL17 should be pretty good stuff for that combo since it is 4350-ish or slower.

ST, I called Swift this morning too, left my name/number and haven't heard back from them.

J, I'm just going to use 85/90gr data and go from there. I was hoping to just get a little more info on R-17....there just isn't much out there yet. I'll just start low and work up. I just pulled the 90 SS-II's out of the moly tumbler, and I can get them to the lands and still feed from the mag-box so I might load some up tonight and see how they shoot through the chrony tomorrow. I'm thinking I'll start with the R-17.

I gave 17 a run in my 25-284, using IMR 4350 data as a guide. The 110AB's were too slow for my liking, so I'm going to have to try the 80/100gr TTSX's or maybe the new SS-II 100's. That .429BC looks pretty dang good at 3300fps.

FWIW I have gotten data from them for a 7STW and 280 and find it to be very mild, like 3-5 grains under the other manuals.

You guys were right....he called me today and is a talker. laugh You'd have thought I was talking to a long lost friend. LOL. We got to talking and I mentioned that I was usually a 223/223AI guy for deer but that I just wanted to play with my 243 this fall. We were talking about the 90gr SSII in a 243 and he went on telling me elk killing stories with that bullet, he says it shouldn't bounce off any Michigan Whitetail's. (grin)

If I were running a 243 that'd be the bullet I'd feed it.

My 257Roy eats SSII 100's and they don't disappoint...

Got around to playing with the '17 and the 90's. Running them Moly'd and in the lands.

These speeds were all from my 22" MR contoured 243.

43gr-3002
43.5gr-3055
44gr-3099
44.5gr-3160
45gr-3220
45.5-3260

45.5gr was the highest charge I had loaded up. I had no visible pressure signs with any of the loads shot. I then shot the 44-45.5gr loads for groups and they were exceptional. All were an inch or less with the 45gr load going into 1/2" for three shots and impacting just 1MOA left of my 75Vmax zero. It'll make it easy to swap bullets in this rifle.

Today I went out and ran some at 250yds. I made the 1MOA adjusment from the 75'max zero and hung 3 shots on steel at 250yds that went into about 1.5". I'm done with this rifle and loaded up the rest of the box of sciroccoII's and called it a day.

I'll be trying to punch a tag with the same bullet in a few weeks.

Yep, I'd say you're done, save the killin'!

The Swift, the TSX, and 95 BT are my pick for top 3 deer/hog bullets for 6mm. Many others will do fine, but I like those the best.

Post results of your kills guys. Look forward to reading them.

I use the 90gr Sirocco II in my 6mm Rem, and 150gr in my 7STW. I killed 2 deer last year with the 6mm using the SS II. My experience has been good. They group well, shoot fast in both guns and hit hard, both kills were pass throughs, both deer btwn 150-175yds. I'm running the 3365fps in the 6mm and 3410fps in the STW.

btw-- i couldn't find load data and was having trouble getting them to shoot in the 6mm, early on. Therefore, I had to call Bill Huber, he was as nice as he could be, but he can for sure talk.

Hi 65BR, Put 7 of the 90SSII's into 6 whitetail. The shots ranged from 30 to 250yds at angles varied from quartering away to broadside to quartering towards. All of the bullets exited, save one. The one I found was about an 160yd shot and the deer was quartering away pretty hard. The bullet entered just in front of the right rear leg and punched on up through and lodged in the left shoulder. I found it while boning out the front shoulder and it measured .510" at its widest point, and weighed 81.6gr. I was/am happy with the performance of them and will be running them again next year. I'm also taking them to Oklahoma with me in January and I'll try and shoot some pigs with them.

Here's the one bullet I recovered.

Brad,

Sorry I'm a little late getting in on this thread, but I've a couple questions.

How were the wound channels/terminal effects of the 90 S-II in comparison to other bullets?

Have you shot any with an 85 TSX? if so, what kind of comparison between the two bullets?

Dakota Deer, I've never played with an 85TSX. I've been running mostly a 223AI and/or a fast twist 22-250 for the past 4-5 years on deer, and then I was always running the 62TSX, with a few 75Amax's mixed in. I just decided to run the 243 this year since it was a new rifle. I received the 90SSII's in a trade deal so that's why I ran them. Originally I was going to run the new 80TTSX until I fell into the Scirocco's.

The terminal effects of the 90 were pretty impressive. The broadside shots turned the lungs to soup and exited. I'd dare say that I seen a little more internal damage that I've seen with the 62TSX. The only one that covered any distance after the shot was one of the doe. Even then it was only about 40yards. That shot was at 130yards. She was coming at a hard angle, just not quiet straight towards me, while being pushed by a little buck. I caught her in front of the right shoulder, she whirled to the right and disappeared in a thick stand of cedar/pines about 20yards to her right. Walking down to where I shot her I found a massive amount of good blood so I knew the bullet exited. Blood was pouring out of both sides and I found her piled up about another 20 yards inside the cedars. That shot ultimately hit in front of the shoulder and exited just behind the last rib, everything inbetween was soup.

To be honest with you, I don't get my head too wrapped up in bullets and don't really take part in the "this vs. that" bullet threads (grin). I just try to keep it simple and I like a bullet that'll give some penetration and not completely nuke. The little SSII seemed to meet that requirement for me. I tried the Berger VLD last year and decided it wasn't for me. Not that it didn't work, because it did, it worked just like JB and the other guys says it does. It went in a little and THEN nuked in the chest cavity. That's just not what I'm wanting in a hunting bullet. I'm just glad that we have a lot of choices in bullets that range from mild to wild.

Long story short, I'll be running them again this winter on hogs and next year on deer. If I draw a bear tag next fall they'll get the nod there also.

Well, what bullet do you think you'll give a test run? I still would like to play with the 80TTSX myself.
