I have a question on pillar bedding a Remington Model Seven. I ordered aluminum pillars from Score Hi and they were for a Model 700. I already knew that the action on mine was shorter, but still thought that these would work. The problem, I believe, is that there is not enough material in the stock to insert the rear pillar (needs a 5/8" hole).

What should I do? Leave the rear out and fill it with glass? Glass both front and rear and forget the aluminum? Any help would be welcome, as this is my first bedding and pillar job.

bummer. never actually thought of that.. can you grind a flat on the ft of the rear pillar to allow mag room etc?

I could, but when I drill the 5/8" hole I will break through the stock. Wouldn't that be bad.

Order a smaller pillar or might contact Score Hi and see if they have smaller pillars for the 7.
I think the pillar in my wife�s 7 is � .500 or 7/16 .437. Let us know how it comes out.

My smith pours his pillars from Steelbed epoxy then drills them out. I've done it in the past and it works well. I used soda straws to shape the srew holes so they were easier to drill out after. A strong epoxy pillar wont crush. Mine feel just as solid as aluminum pillars when torquing the bolts down.

i was thinking drilling a smaller hole on center and finish filing to shape.... the epoxy pillars work too for sure... you can use arrow shafts cut to length as sleeves..

Yep, I poured pillars well before I ever had "real" pillars.... steel bed was it. I don't use the kits though, I use shoe polish for release agent and just buy the larger tubs of steel bed. No need for anything else. Get some hobby clay at wally world....

Thanks for the replies. I had already e-mailed Score Hi, but no response. It looks like from their site that they do not have smaller sizes. I think I will just use glass for the pillars, as was suggested. It is a hunting rifle after all. I am just trying to get the groups down.

Need to do something similar to my Model 7. You can feel the action move when you start to tighten the action screws. Might have some other issues too, but the thing will shoot right at an inch the way it is. Go figure.

OK, it's been awhile since my post. Since then, I have used aluminum pillars and bedded the action. Free floated the barrel. Adjusted the trigger. Cold shots are right on. Hot barrel shots 3" to 4" to the right. This was with factory rem core-loks. I do not re-load, so I am wondering what to do next.
