I don't always venture out into the sub-freezing darkness, but when I do, it is deer hunting season, and I carry a Remington. Stay hungry my friends.

It's probably worth rebarreling, as the straight stocked rifles, especially the .35s, are hard to come by. But, come to think of it, it won't be original anymore, so it's collector value will be limited. That said, I would be interested in it if you decide to sell it because I prefer the straight stock. Not sure what it would be worth, though. In decent shape they are going from anywhere between $200-300, depending on luck and condition. Rebarreling might run close enough that it wouldn't be worth it to you.

www.e-gunparts.com still lists barrels for Marlin. From where I'm sitting, you would be farther ahead to re-barrel since a rifle with a bad bbl won't bring that much. - 100-150 in this part of the world. SW

I think that it would be unusual to "shoot out" the barrel on a 35 Remington. If the bore isn't rusty and the crown isn't dinged, perhaps a trip to your 'smith for a professional cleaning/tune-up would bring it back. GPC has new 20" 336 barrels in 35 Remington for $62.45, plus shipping, their item number is 454010.

BTW, what are the performance issues that have convinced you that your barrel is worn out?

I have an older 35 remington that has no rifling left in the last half inch of the barrel. It also shoots slow, about 1800 fps with factory 200 grain ammo.

Do you think a rebarrel would help?

Wow, that much worn rifling!

I would get a new barrel from GPC. Marlin 336s are really easy to rebarrel. I would suggest contacting Regan Nonneman in Maryville, MO, as he is the best Marlin 'smith that I know of. BTW, 1800 fps with factory ammo out of a 20" barrel wouldn't be unusually slow.
