Really POed as its a 22 size stuck in a 250 99!
Any ideas other than pulling off the wood and putting it on the gas grill?

Didn't this just come up awhile ago? there were lots of suggestions but I don't think we ever heard the final outcome or solution.I did not like the idea of that much stuff in the barrel on a pull thru. I do use a "Patchworm' pull thru for quick cleaning -I don't think you could break the heavy weed-eater line its made of and if you did you would only have the patch to deal with. but I use a coated rod for routine cleaning

I looked at the posts, but there were no success stories, just ideas. I still got the front end hanging out (muzzle) and it's stuck in the throat. Soaking it with Break Free over night. See if it'll move, otherwise it's fabrication of some kinda tool to pull it back out the chamber end.

tried running it through dry did you?

is it stuck or broke off? is it completely inside the barrel?

try pouring some bore solvent down the barrel and see if that will lube it up.

Here is a reply from the manufacturer:

October 19, 2006, 03:50 PM
Due to the increased use of Bore snakes, and reports of snakes breaking off in the bore, I contacted Michael's of Oregon about what they recommend as an extraction method.

Their answer:

I've heard numerous extraction methods, but the only thing that we
recommend is for the individual not to put any oils/solvent down the
barrel if the snake brakes. It will cause the snake to swell, thus
becoming harder to dislodge. We haven't found a recommended extraction
method yet.

Is a snake "brake" anything like a Jake Break?

Well a factory expert who can't spell "break" doesn't know much about the friction of a dry vs oiled pull through.

Tom thanks for your help, may you be kidnapped down there in the third world, held for ransom and folks pay for them to keep you. (GRIN)

I won't go into the details, but I know "someone" blush who got a jag and patch jammed tight in a .260Rem...In fact it was *so* tight when he tried to pull the carbon (Tippton)rod out, the brass fitting at the end, complete with jag and cotton patch, stayed firmly put.

The person in question tried tapping it out with a large diameter cleaning rod and it was still lodged firm, however a quirt of WD40 down the bore and the whole obstruction slid out easily....

Regards,

Peter

Could see if a good car mechanic has sometype of snake type tool with small jaws on the end like they would use to grab nuts or bolts that fall into manifolds and what not. I'll bet Snap-on makes something like that......they make every other crazy type tool.. Just a thought.

Is there any chance there was a loop (knot) in the tail of the snake that is stuck in the chamber?

Methinks there might be some chain yanking going on here. A 22 caliber snake in a quarter bore? With the tough part, the brush, already through. Pretty near impossible. Been using snakes for years, and have pulled a 30 cal through a 270. I'm thinking ART was right.

Bore Mongoose?

A gun shop I go to runs them through the bore to knock out the dust so they can look at rifling in dirty trade ins. I have stopped someone from pulling one thru that the tail had made a loop as they jerked on the string. That could jam in the throat and cause a problem, otherwise it does seem they would be tough to stick.

Oh goodness, yes I just made it up to put old Cliff's shorts in a knot. Grow up.
The drywall suggestion got me thinking, but I had the same concern about their breaking easily. Them I remembered my synthetic board deck screws, much stronger with a square drive.
Carefully screwed on into the chamber (where the loop end had jammed) and levered it out with padded needle noses. Popped right out. No damage to anything. PHEW!
What had happened was that the loop end had started to come apart, sliding down on its self, enlarging the cross section.
Lesson 1: These things work fine (I use em' all the time with Wipeout) but they do have a life span.
Lesson 2: Probably not a bad idea to put a chunk of 300 pound test fishline around the loop end so you can pull it out either way.
Thanks for your advice.

Glad you got it out. Had a snake in my spring cistern once, had to get that one out as well.

Not be anal about cleaning (no humidity in WY), I don't touch a bore until accuracy drops off. Unless a barrel is rough, that can be a lot of shooting. Wipeout is just a great product and I've never had a problem with the Snakes from 22RF up to 12 Bore.
This one was defective (from use) and I missed it.

Yeah I have all the Dewey rods, jags, guides and brushes but they pretty much gather dust until winter storage when I use a mop with break free down the bore, just to be anal. (always store muzzle down).
Come spring a new mop with acetone cleans out the oil and I go shoot.

My 722 222 probably has seen 5000 rounds with never a serious cleaning (just the storage routine) and still shoots the same bug holes it did when I bought it back when JFK was the President. (Of course those were the days of a 26" CUT rifled barrels even from REM/UMC!)
