Any suggestions? 4 5/8 barrel. Want a holster that sits fairly high. Been looking at Simply Rugged. Thinking of a Sourdough Pancake, Longhunter, or Tom Threepersons.

I think you're looking in the right place. If you're considering a Threepersons, remember the original, El Paso Saddlry; they make a fine holster at a fair price.

I think you'll also find that many western holsters when attached directly to the pants belt ride just about right, so consider them as well.

I have a Bianchi Lawman that I like. I have a separate pistol belt now, but used to wear it on my pants belt. It rode high.

I like Milt Sparks or El Paso Saddlery for sixguns...

I like the Simply Rugged Sourdough Pancake for my 4 5/8 blackhawk.

I have the same revolver and am happy with the Bianchi Lawman holster also.

It fits the smaller frame of the flattop well? No slop?

My Blackhawk is a .44M flat top and there isn't any flop. Mine's a 6.5" though.

I have a Simply Rugged Keith style for a single six 4 5/8, and love it. Well made and a perfect fit. I have ordered one for a blackhawk too. I think they would make a great holster for the flattop .44 special, if the Keith style is what you want. When you talk to Rob at Simply Rugged, let him know exactly which model you have...and then it will be a good fit.

I bought a Tom Threepersons extra fancy floral carving from El Paso Saddlery for my 4 5/8 bbl. I have several Threepersons holsters. They are great field holsters.

I'm somewhat of a scrooge when it comes to my gun leather. I have carried my 4 5/8 .41 Blackhawk in a $25 Triple K Thumbreak for years and years. It's just now getting that good used look. Another reasonable option is Oklahoma Leather. Good luck.

I have an El Paso Threepersons for my SS Bisley but decided to try the Mernickle SA concealment holster for my .44 Flat Top. The model number is PS6-SA. I like it strong side for under a coat but use it cross draw for hunting. A very handy rig.

Thanks very much for that. I had never heard of them before. That is a mighty nice looking holster.

It's getting hard to choose. Good thing I have time before the 44spl arrives. Currently leaning to the Simply Rugged Sourdough Pancake or the Mernickle PS6-SA. Both look like what I'm looking for. The Sourdough can be worn either strongside or crossdraw. Can the PS6-SA be worn crossdraw? Not really that important, but a consideration possibly.

Yes, the Mernicle can be worn strong and cross draw. I suggest you look at their web site. Dillon also has this version in stock and it is where I got mine.

The sights are exposed. Any concern that the adjustable sights might get whacked?

So far it hasn't been a problem here around the farm. The rig rides so high it is protected by my arms. I wouldn't want to roll around in the dirt with it, but that's not the purpose.

I too truly love the Mernickle holsters and their customer service. In 2008 I was heading up to Alaska on a Grizz hunt and decided to pack my 4-5/8" 45 Colt as back up. I had Mernickle build me a FC2 (Field Carry II) http://www.mernickleholsters.com/fc/fc2.html. While it was being build my Ruger was at Dave Clements Custom shop having the front sight replaced with one of his taller custom front sights. I didn't take into account the sight fit in the holster and when married up the gun barely fit, dragging leather out with the front sight each time I drew the gun. In a panic as my hunt was only a few weeks away, I called Mernikle and explained the problem. Their response was "no problem, well build you a new one ASAP and get it to you". They also lowered the front of the holster to allow room for a Trijicon RedDot sight. It arrived very quickly and the fit was fantastic. Year and a half later it's still fitting great. I also bought a 6-round ammo slide.
