It says, J.Stevens,Arms & Tool Co., Chicopee Fls,Mass. USA. Lo-Wall .22 short, 25"bbl, 13/16" at muzzle, front site missing, receiver site (quite rusty, no name seen), 2 sling slots, ones a barrel band, rubber butt?(chip on toe), #710XX. Doesn't look like barrel or stock has been cut. Oh, 'bout 4" ahead of receiver the forearm is wider(6" worth)than rest of forearm.

The deceased gentleman kepted it in a plastic gun case with wool-like fuzzy cheap material. Metal has a bad case of Acne, barrel & receiver. Wood pretty decent, few cuts-dents. Bore real dirty, couldn't see the rifling.

Any info on this. Don't go over $$ worth. Thank Y'All. 99 LL

I know some about Stevens but the low wall marking has me guessing. What we really need is pics. and a description--I assume it is an underlever single shot?

By the bbl band it might be a Stevens 414, a military trainer for WWII but the 22 short has me confused, should be 22LR.
Cruise on over to "www.assra.com" (American Single Shot Rifle Assoc. web site) and ask some questions there--someone will help you for sure on the "collectors" forum.

Forend config. is CORRECT, and I hope that'll help you ID the thing.

It sounds like you've got a 414 there , to me, too.

It is NOT a low wall,.....Stevens never built one.

A steal at $300,....without seeing it, I'd venture no more. There's mild Acne, and than there's skin disease,....what ?

BTW, the 414 was out on the street before WW2

CrossFire: Thanks for the reply. Yep! That's the one, 414 without scope & dif buttstock. Sorry on the 'Low Wall' claim, it did remind me of them. I had articles on 414's but couldn't find 'em. Receiver has Bad Acne, age spots on barrel, no front site, A few nicks. Thanks for the Boost !!

No sweat,.....I'd sure like to find an original higher combed, shotgun buttplated original 414 stock to finish mine with,...

keep your eyes peeled.

BTW ,....the original ( Lyman ) sight that was fitted to the 414s
is RARE, and even a beat up one's worth over $100.

They're not rare because they were good, mind you,.....most everyone took em' off, and tossed them.

Those old Stevens had a WIDE front dovetail.

7/16" (.435") Nominal.....with some sight's male dovetail running out to a whopping (.450").

A 17A would be period correct for that 414. Try and find an older one,....the fit, finish, quality of the new Lyman's is not the best.

Whoops,.....just re-read this,...what I was getting at was that the REAR sight on that 414 is considered "Rare". I THINK YOU SAID YOUR POTENTIAL RIG has A REAR SIGHT.

The front sight you'll PROBABLY want to use , The Lyman 17A should be readily and affordably available.

Got a 17A Lyman Front Site,...too small (.375-.378). Need one + wider. Couldn't find my inside calipers to obtain a better measurement. I have a Redfield frt. site,(.363-.375) still not enough. Well, back to looking around.
