I have a 20ga double barrel my dad gave me in 1982 when I turned 12. I asked some guys through the years what it is, but noone knew. Its a side by side and says "Reno" in gold inlay? The barrel says " Casa J. Uriguen-Eibar(Spain)". I just got it out a couple minutes ago while I was lookin through things. Havent used it in years. I gotta clean it tomorrow. Just tryin to find out a little about it. If you know anything about em let me know. Thanks.

Did Ugartechea make guns back then? I have a model 30 that resembles that one, except mine has an English style butt stock.

Look like someone engraved the name and the bird.It certainly isn't from the manufacturer.

My friend just showed me his shotgun an American Arms shotgun. I had to look all over the thing for a manufacturer. I took the fore end off and it was inside underneath the chambers. It was made by someone in Spain I never heard of. I wonder if it might be a guild gun.

A pic of the barrel and action flats might help a lot. If you're really curious, go to the "bible", Terry Weiland's book on Spanish shotguns. Though I don't recall him mentioning Uriguen, there were dozens of small makers in the Basque hub. Eibar is one of the two principal towns of their "gun valley", the other being Elgoibar.

BTW, Ignacio Ugartechea has been in business since 1922.

A google search on "Urigen shotgun" (without the quotes) produces more than 300 hits. Some are useful There are a couple of 410s for sale on gunbroker and on gunsamerica. The listing of the one on gunsamerica says they were imported by York Cutlery. There's a brief discussion of them on shotgunworld too, with a different importer mentioned.

The "Reno" in gold is apparently a usual identifying mark.

As they say about Spanish shotguns, "buy the gun, not the name." I think a lot of them were cottage industry guns using parts from a manufacturer who supplied barrels, etc, and the name on the gun is the simply the clearing house for these guns. Some are good, some ain't good.

Thanks all. Not much info available, but what ive read is interesting. Even though these are cheap guns, this one just feels about perfect in my hand. The auctions for the 410 I saw is over. If I find one though im gonna buy it. Id love to have a 410 by the same maker. Thanks again for the help.

If you have owned it for 28 years, shot it a lot and it is still tight, it is not one of the soft metal guns. Enjoy, it is a family treasure. It looks like the toplever is still right of center and it has a rebated receiver --- both good signs IMO.
