I'm trying to find a decent trout stream around the area in Virginia. I'm near Alexandria and can travel a few hours but would like to find a place to do some fishing to get rid of the cabin fever. Any ideas? Thanks Bazil.

Not lived back there for near 40 years, but the upper reaches of the Rapidan River (also known as Hoover Camp) in Shenandoah National Park, Madison County gave up consistently large trout. I was a good deal younger then, and size might be relative. It was pretty quiet country though. The lower reaches of the river down in the flats were also good for smallmouth. Might be a bit of run from Alexandria.
Do keep us posted on your doings.
You've brought back some fond memories.

I called a local fly shop and they were of no help, said to come in and they would take care of me. So I went to trails.com and found all my information. I found all the stream info the below website, then slowly made a plan on trails.com http://www.mossycreekflyfishing.com/currentconditions.aspxAnd the okay size was about 10". I was looking for the pic's but I have changed comptures since then. Good Luck

OK, thanks....thats about what I thought...if its anything like here, a 12" brookie out of some streams is a real trophy...its all relative..
Thanks again, Ingwe

I went to Shenandoah last year and the rangers couldn't tell me a access point to reach the creek? I walked down one trail from dickey ridge and found the stream about 10 stories below? I went to Gunpowder Creek in Maryland, the fish were not hitting and didn't see a trout? The water temp was 39 degrees when we got there so it was cold even for trout. Tried dragging the bottom for two days without any luck. It was nice to get out though and a beautiful area. I stopped at Backwater Angler up there and met Theo? Very helpful and nice. I will return up there to see about catching those trout. Esox357
